Due dates and start dates for projects??

David Drake   Monday, July 26

It would be VERY helpful if we could assign start dates and due dates for projects and not just next actions. I have many projects that have hard due dates, others that I wish to delay and start at certain times. Please add this capability soon!!

Thanks…

Hello David,

This feature has been requested in the past and will become an option. I’m not sure yet when, but it is on our improvement list.

Just a comment here for David Drake – if you study the GTD system and methodology, project start dates and due dates generally are not needed. I understand that if you are working in a company that has formal projects, like construction projects, for instance, you need to work with dates, but for this kind of work, Nozbe is not the proper tool. You can use Microsoft Project or a host of lesser applications that allow you to do critical path analysis and identify relationships among tasks, and so forth. But the GTD system is a system for PERSONAL productivity and David Allen does not include any concept of start dates and due dates in this methodology. The idea is identify the projects and then mark the one or ones for next action and then proceed from there. If there are tasks that must be done on a certain date, then the calendar application within Nozbe is the way to accomplish that. But tracking start and due dates in general goes against the grain of the GTD philosophy.

I have recently swopped for Omnifocus to Nozbe because a PC has crept into my workflow. I would love the start date feature for projects and tasks. I disagree a little that it isn’t part of GTD philosophy because it is a easy way to defer an action for a specific date in the future.

Dean please note that there are due dates on actions per definition. What is missing is due dates on projects and/or ongoing/multi-day events.

Finding i really can use these even more now…

also implementation of such a feature gives nozbe the ability to have a “organize when tasks should be done” feature based on our past location history and what we tend to do first/procrastinate on – or only takes a short amount of time to do.
