Hello all,
It is sad but true that beta tests of the Android application are not going as smoothly as we all would wish for. It is mainly due to the multitude of versions of that system available.
Thus we would like to make an appeal to all of you, who have been experiencing issues with that application.
Please send us your logs.
Here is how to do so:
1. please install an app called Log Collector https://market.android.com/details?
id=com.xtralogic.android.logcollector&feature=search_result
3. start up Nozbe app
4. go to any project on the app
5. exit Nozbe app
6. Open your Log Collector
7. Pick Gmail and send the logs to dev@nozbe.com
Those logs will aid out tech team in spotting and eliminating of those issues. We hope for your help, cooperation and understanding.
Thank you in advance,
Delfina
Comments:
The first 2 releases crashed on my HTC Desire. Very repeatable. However it was not of much consequence since the functionality of the app was deficient anyway and even if it did not crash I would have deleted anyway.
The third and current version of the app (1.2) does not crash on either HTC Desire or my new Dell Streak. So there is nothing I can add here re crash dumps. Shame to read here (and also in teh Android Market) that others are having problems at this basic level and work is still required.
There are though other issues – it remains functionally deficient (there is no way to hand sort any list – which is a must have for me, no landscape mode, no move to SD etc) and I don’t use. I’d also say that, icons aside, the screen layout tends to look rough – the recurring icon is so small its taken me ages to work out what it was for example and on the Streak the Nozbe logo and menu line is all squashed. There is not the polish one sees in most Android apps and where, no matter if I use HTC desire or Dell Streak, I see usable screens. The Nozbe iPhone app also looks pretty fit for purpose.
I reloaded up the Nozbe app on both phones to check and on the Dell Streak I’ve just noticed that when I wake it from Standby Nozbe crashes and offers a force close/report option. I sent in a crash report. Both now deleted again. I don’t see much hope here of achieving a fully-working Nozbe experience by the end of the summer.
Hello Bruce,
Could I ask you to kindly provide us with logs, thank you.
I have done this – if with a heavy heart. The apps been out 5 months and still does not contain core functionality to make it of use to me. It’s also the second crash report submitted – when it falls over the system offers the option of reporting which I did already. No other App provider has asked me to do stuff like this. Come to that no other provider expects £80 a year for all this late beta software.
What I did:
1) Started Nozbe and went in to Next Actions
2) Put phone to sleep
3) Wake up phone
4) No option now but to either Force Close or use standard Report (a problem) mechanism. Did Standard report earlier today and so did the Force Close.
5) Started Log Collector and sent log as advised.
Since doing the above there have been 2 more Nozbe Android beta releases:
1.3 seemed to crash on opening on many phones, mine included. It has been rapidly superceded by…
1.4 This does not crash on opening but all the problems noted above remain – it crashes and is functionally deficient.
Having submitted 2 crash reports already I don’t plan doing more. I hope Beta 1.4 solves somebodies problem.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version and it helped my force close problems, but the android ap is still not functioning well on my Droid 2. Just sent a log as requested. Items on phone are not syncing with online. Some items there, others not, landscape still does not work, calendar view inaccurate. Don’t have the time to test fully to provide documentation, but hope this helps.
All the logs are very helpful. Many users have reported much improvement as to previous versions. Thank you.
@Terri. Landscape is not supported yet and neither are the tablet devices. Thank you for the log.
Defina “Many users have reported much improvement” – where would this be? I don’t notice lots of congratulations on the forum for example. And in the Android market the comments are a wretched advertisement for what is supposed to be a flagship app.
Under are the last 10 comments on teh Android Market for teh Nozbe app:
Consistent Crashes

Droid x. Works fine the first time I open it after logging in. If I close the app and come back later it crashes every time.

Love web app! This is poor. Needs to be in system share list…it’s major way for Android to get items into app!! Force closes still.
Getting worse

Slow on Desire and the interface is clunky. Sync seems unreliable.

Beta 1.1 is worse then 1.0 – very slow and bug ridden. Enormously disappointing.

Most are 1 or 2 stars and only 1 of the 10 is positive. The average rating (over all time) is 2.4. For comparison the average for Evernote is 4.6 and for Twitter is 4.
The Nozbe iPhone app (by external experts Macroscope) scores 4 stars and the vast majority of recent comments are positive.
Bruce.
I speak of reports I get on email.
Those reports you have posted here are all known to me… notably most of those person were not kind enough to write to support and believe me it is not easy to track someone and help them if they just post it in some external source. I’m sorry but issues do not disappear by touch of magic wound and comparing Macoscope’s apps to Andriod app is simply unfair..as it is one iOS contra 20-30 different versions.
I don’t think “fairness” is the only part of this equation. It’s about transparency too.
Michael’s blog post on 21-July said “We’re now also busy preparing new releases of our mobile clients and hope to have them soon on your headsets. We are determined to bringing you the fully-working native Nozbe experience across the board of all the most popular platforms by the end of the summer, so our mobile clients are very important to us.“
It’s 19-September. The only reliable client for those of us that don’t use the Apple platform is web based and its mobile version is limited and clunky. The “beta” versions that I’ve tested are more like internal-alpha, missing features and only semi-reliable. I’m weary of the promises and celebrations without substantive deliveries.
I’m still loyal to Nozbe but concerned that the company won’t survive because development seems to be stalled.
Hello Michael,
I do understand that you can be weary of this situation. I, honestly, can’t blame you. I will pass your post to Michael.
All I can say that no development has been stalled and that Nozbe is doing fine. We are hiring at the moment additional 2-3 technicians and I trust this will significantly speed up the development/improvement process.
Delfina: It is right to compare Android and iPhone – people compare the phones and apps all the time. Evernote on iPhone and Android is fine, Twitter ditto and many other apps similarly. With Nozbe this is not so. It’s nearly 6 months since the first Beta (Alpha really as Michael Masin says) emerged and you are still saying its very difficult because android phones come in lots of different types. Well that doesn’t stop others from delivering success and has been known ever since Android was released. The reason you have bad reports in the Android market is because you release poor apps (late).
