Hi!
Although it maybe late to start discussing the official native desktop apps (in my case for Win) since they are in late beta, I feel the need to point out some things I like in the Web UI in comparison to the desktop app:
1) The Nozbe community advocated a resizable width of columns for the UI. The Desktop is different and allows resizing. However, this goes somewhat to the other extreme. Certain columns (task detail pane and project/context list) keep showing and disappearing which is rather distracting since it resizes columns within the app window.
2) Related to #1 – What I like in the Web UI is the list of Projects/Contexts always visible. Apart from being visible, one can easily DRAG-and-DROP in the web UI. There is no such feature in the desktop app.
3) There is a always visible calendar in the web UI (if the user opens it). This should also be present in the desktop app.
4) The Web UI has all items of a project aggregated on one page (Tasks, notes, files, etc). In the Desktop App there are switch buttons. This may be nice to differentiate tasks from ref. material. But I think it would be better that to have ALL reference material visible in one area – in other words it would be great to have Notes and Files listed together (also with Box.net and Nozbe Files).
5) Regarding the pane with the task details – maybe an option could be introduced – like show task details:
a) under the task list
b) to the right of the task list
Some thing like the pane configuration of mail clients where messages can be shown at the right or bottom.
For the reasons above, I find the web UI much more practical for cleaning the Inbox (drag-n-drop on context and project)m reviewing (drag-n-drop on the calendar) and navigating.
Keep up the great work!
ZZ.
