A few thoughts on communications…
status.nozbe.com = good but not updating status.nozbe.com = why have a status page? I saw the note about the scheduled downtime, checked the page at 1:58PM EDT and it hasn’t been updated. I don’t know if maintenance was completed or postponed.
Next thought. A forum is not an efficient way to report/track bugs, especially if we’re using beta releases. A real issue tracking site would be helpful.
Bug report: I used the windows desktop app seriously today for the first time and noted that when the Next Actions list is grouped by context, completed items slide to the bottom of the page when they’re ticked and after a refresh they slide to the bottom of their context group. For me, I prefer that they disappear (old discussion, new GUI), but if they don’t disappear, I prefer that they slide to the bottom of the list and stay there so I can ignore them.
thx
Comments:
Oh and a further negative thought on the windows client. It all looks good, but it is far behind the online version until you can either 1. search in project or 2. they are indexed.
I would love to say that I am impressed, but sorry guys.
First you set a time with less than 1 days notice, then you delay the start and delay notifying everyone of the delay, then 1 hour (hoping for 15 minutes) becomes over 3 hours. You get high marks for creating status.nozbe.com and for at the end posting updates that explained what was happening, but setting false expectations at the start drag your score down to a failing grade.
As for speed, it seems the same.
Thank you all. I will pass this to Michael and the tech.
Thanks so much for the comments and suggestions. We were prepared for the downtime and wanted to make it as short as possible but as always things beyond our control didn’t go as planned and instead of 1 hour had 3 hours. We are truly sorry about that!
We later kept updating the status page and finally managed to get people up to speed. But yes, we posted the first update a little too late.
Anyway, sorry for the kinks, glad we’re on the new server now and are able to focus more on bringing the desktop apps closer to the web app.
Windows Desktop app is still no substitute for the web app, but it complements it really good already. We’ll be brining new features weekly and finally want to make it on par with the web version by the end of this month.
Thanks for your comments guys!
A few more thoughts on communication and general planning of maintenance. When I received a message that it now was last chance to update the offline client, it was already too late.
That combined with the site being down for 2-3 hours in prime office (I am in South America), just as I had planned to work on my project backlog, more or less meant lost a good chance for working. Is US the smallest market. Judging from the users in the forum, it appears to have been a wise choice to choose a time for updates when Russia and China is working instead of USA. And then it is obviously annoying that the update takes several hours when the expectation is 30 min. Sorry to have been a pain, but I was not happy.
Is the server faster now? I find it as slow as always…
