Nozbe on Android - choices?

Hi,

I’m looking to buy an Android phone and one main reason is to use Nozbe on it! My usage will mainly be a 1-person system (just me) syncing using WiFi at home and at work, but mostly utilizing offline mode as I won’t have a data plan.

For anyone who’s used Nozbe on Android phones, please give me some feedback on the following:

a) Is this my full list of choices?
1 – Android app
2 – Web-based mobile version (offline mode)
3 – Nozbe web in a browser in offline mode
4 – Some app that lets me install the Windows desktop version?

b) How does your experience rank for each of the above?

c) I’ll probably be getting a phone with a keypad. So, it looks like the lack of landscape in the Android app (currently) will hurt me… Will any of the other options work for me in landscape mode?

Thanks a lot!

-Areeb

It’s interesting that nobody has answered. I hold a gloomy view that Nozbe on Android is not yet sorted out. Somebody else recently put down they thought the development seemed to have stalled. You don’t have to look far on the forum to see the Android app has not proved reliable and is functionally deficient. What says it all for me are the ratings in the Android Market – not good. Nozbe says its a flagship app for them and they are committed to delivering an excellent solution by the end of summer…

When somebody recently asked a question like yours but said they were getting a new phone, should it be iPhone or Android in order to use Nozbe, the clear consensus was iPhone.

Well Bruce I was wondering if any user would. That’s why I have not replied instantly.

Frankly to say the response is not easy, Areeb. First of all you have to keep in mind that you all those application need on-line account to work properly. Thus if you want unlimited number of projects and tasks you will need to have a paid account. If you want all those platforms to communicate you do need to have the on-line account.

Only exception from this rule are the iPhone and iPad applications that can work without ever being synchronized with on-line.

What Bruce says is true about the Andriod… it is in beta … Desktop application also. Landscape Andriod version won’t be out for a while, as we 1st want to stabilize the application then will work on Tablets and landscape mode. Here I suggest reading the blog on it. You can also send us email with phone you are considering and we can check for you on which the apps works best.

Thanks for the responses.

Delfina, I already have a Nozbe paid account :-)

My biggest concern is being able to work on Nozbe offline on the phone while syncing occasionally. I understand the Android app still needs some work, what about the other options I listed?

I’ve sent an email to questions@nozbe.com with my list of phones with the same subject as this post.

Looking forward to a reply as I need to get an Android phone soon.

But the question remains: When will the Android app will be stable? For now it’s not even a beta; on my Android 3.2 tablet it keeps abending and is therefore useless for me.

@John … the tablets are not yet supported by the application. We are in process of increasing the tech team to speed the creation process up and we plan to have stable version out by end this year.

@Areeb
Thank you for taking a moment to email there.
The other options to be honest I’m not 100% sure what is hidden behind them.
e.g. do you mean iNozbe behind the web-based mobile version? If yes then this is a stable one, but it does not contain many of the features found in on-line Nozbe. Here again we are working on a iNozbe 2.0 that is to be released early 2012.
- in case of the web-offline version- here are two options … one is the normal Nozbe browser version… the offline here is in beta stage and honestly speaking not best. I believe the project is right now in stasis as the main focus is on Destkop version (which will be the offline client) and Android. And the second choice is offline Mac app made by Macoscope… this would defiantly fit the description also.

In respect to the 3rd option… please look up the answer in 2nd one. There are currently 2 applications for Mac and Windows… so-called Desktops which you can download. Both are primarily working offline, but as do the Android, also those two are in beta stage (though I have to admit they are far less problematic then Android but still miss many feature (atm they are good to get the basic stuff done).

I hope this helps and I’m sorry for brief and dry response on that.

Delfina – after a month of not being able to do an initial sync on the Android app. I figured I would try it today and it worked. I am now up and running. I don’t know what changed on your end (nothing changed on my phone), but I am grateful I can now use Nozbe both on the web and on my Android.

@Chris,

I’m glad to hear that. Please note that in case of any trouble what helps our developers immensely is the logs. I have explained in another post called “appeal for logs” how to send them in.
