Offline backup MUST be first priority

Like many of you, I’m a paying customer, and as such expect certain features to be part and parcel of a program that handles our most important day to day information.

I run my own plumbing business which is busy and has many different projects and multiple tasks with most projects, so there is always plently of information in many different areas – like many of you.

With this comes the absolute need for security of data, but as I’m hearing, there isn’t any. You (Nozbe) say there is, but others are saying when you use it things go wrong. So for practicle reasons this means THERE IS NO BACKUP!! Why would you start something that manages important information without a backup system?

I have only recently finally become used to this website, and have uploaded all my information, all my data and quite liking many of the functions…..... But no backup! This makes me want to look else where, especially when the line of important issues looks like they are adding things and not focussing on the most important issues.

I see posts from the ipad people saying that it doesn’t work properly (may be programmed by others but still is a Nozbe product), I have an android phone and would like the android option, but find the GT Droid ok at present (just, although would be good to have native android soon), and they also have this ‘Emaline’ in the line ahead of offline stuff to fix. Yes it would be great to have email linking, but FIX THE IMPORTANT FEATURES BEFORE INCLUDING OTHERS.

I’m sorry, but the process here seems stupid. They can’t offer offline support (properly) or backup, which I would think would be of primary necessity so users can use this system when the internet goes down, or for other reasons. And no properly functioning backup. Sorry, but this is a biggy for me.

So, I put out a call.

Those who think this is a MAJOR MUST HAVE please post here to show the Nozbe people that backup and offline are absolutely neseccary NOW.

If they (Nozbe) want to have all these features, and added extras and sincing with multiple platforms, then the need for more techies is a must. If there isn’t enough income generation for more techies, then we need to know because that means this system will probably always be short of the mark, and I’m not paying $90 per year (not a huge amount but still money) for that.

Just my opinion, but I’d love to hear others.

None of us want to test backup and restore in case there is a problem.

So what would be nice is if any user could have a second test account for free for a few days to check that restore works for them.

So you backup your normal data and you restore it on the test account and check it all looks fine etc.

Not sure I have seen it but it would also be nice if there was a Nozbe option to clean out the Nozbe account you are using at the time. And the restore again into this cleaned environment and check all is well. Restore on a restored account could also be tested to check that everything still worked.

In short this would assure customers that Backup and restore should work for them and if it does not then Nozbe have the information to fix things. It actually widens the test base right out.

In stead of making new pointless bubble features, the Nozbe team should focus on the real issues.

Hello All,

I just would like clarify one issue that seems to be confused by a lot of our users.

The backup facility available to users is a personal backup.

It does not mean that Nozbe lacks the server backup. Please do not mix the two. Servers, and thus your accounts, are backup several times a day.

In case due to some error you loose any data, accidentally delete it or for any other reason something goes wrong… it is enough to write us an email and we’ll restore it for you.

The backup feature has been temporarily disabled. The tech is working on figuring out what is causing those issues and resolving them. It should be back up within few days. I will do my best to keep you all posted.

It’s fine to have a backup on the server, but that’s not on our computers, and to have to wait for a reply to email to get back data that we need multiple times a day.

Best option – backup that we can save to our computers so we know that our important data is safe and easily accessible, immediately.

Obviously this probably will never happen. But what if your servers went down. There is no way of us getting our info till you fix the problem. Basically our lives come to a standstill because we can’t access the data.

Lets be real, we are using Nozbe to handle our day to day, very important data. Not something we can be without at any moment.

Hello David,

There is no possibility for the all serves to be down.. we have several of them running + the backup ones at a different data center. It would have to be overall internet failure to make you not have access to your data. Furthermore in preparation are stand alone clients for PC and Mac. Which will make you even more independent from the server.

As for the backup. Our tech team is looking into this matter right now. You can pull down the file to your computer, but importing it back has been temporarily disabled (as I have mentioned above).

We’re fixing the backup feature later today and it should be in production on Monday.

We do regular backups of entire Nozbe database every 3 hours to two secure remote locations so it’s virutally impossible for your data to get lost, so don’t worry.

However we do understand that the text-file backup must work without problems and we’re fixing this right now. Thanks for your comments!

So it seems that offline backup still is not fixed ?

It has been over 10 days since the last posting and the Import function is still down. Server backups are not sufficient. What if the Internet connection between us goes down? Without a local backup and ability to restore, I cannot continue to use Nozbe.

I have noticed that the backup is now allowing a download of the text file.

Can I find out if this can be altered and uploaded or if it’s just a data safety feature.

It says on the section for backup that it can be altered and uploaded, but others have had their data totally rearranged and/or deleted. Is this still happening or can someone tell us with confidence that it’s working properly. That once the altered data is uploaded that it appears in the right fields?

Thanks for your hard work. I’m personally looking forward to the release of the Beta Android app, which was said to be released in March….....it’s March. (-: And said to be free (-: (-:

Delfina, on Feb 18th, Michael said that the backup feature would be fixed the following Monday . It still is not possible to import a backup file so nothing has been fixed ?

:-)
Delfina 4 Mar 11 09:32

That’s true. The exporting is possible but importing not yet. Well to be honest it has been fixed, but the tech wants to test it some more before they re-enable it as to avoid coming back to you with bugged feature.
