Review feature request and (bug?)

One of the best things for me about Nozbe is the review facility – it is excellent and I do some of my most productive thinking in this section. However there are a couple of things that are a bit irksome:

First On some projects there is an option to

“show more than the first 3 actions”

If I click on this it often has no more actions. This may be triggered by the fact that there are further actions in the project, but they are completed – but as completed actions don’t show up in the review, then it just wastes time. You are led to believe that there may be further actions, click, wait and in the end there are none.

The other slightly tiresome thing is not being able to add an action easily while in the review section. If you are a way down your list of projects/actions, and you suddenly think of an addition it is a pain to do this. Currently I get round this by making notes of these and then adding them after the review.

Notwithstanding these 2 niggles – reviews are now very easy, very productive and useful

To extend this slightly – it would be great if there was a preference for the “review” to always show all tasks; after all, a review should be a review of all your actions, so it makes sense to be able to see them all. I find it frustrating having to click on “show all tasks” about 40 times to see them all.

+1 adding actions in review section

I will add your ideas to our list on ‘review’. We do plan to facilitate something of a sort, but it is yet unclear what shape it will take, thus all ideas are welcomed.

I’d like to add a +1 to being able to automatically “show all” instead of defaulting to only showing 3. I’m always clicking on the little “show all” link, as Adrian mentioned.

I have to say, that although I’m liking Nozbe so far from the point of view of entering and keeping data, that the interface doesn’t lend itself, in my view, to review or an overview. I think this is because, for my poor little brain, I would like to be able to go to a “Projects” page which shows just the next action for each Project (and the number of outstanding actions), and because for me, the font size is too big – I can reduce the font size in my browser, but that just makes the used space narrower; I’d like to reduce the font size for each action.

Perhaps, for a review feature to be really really good, one should like to the GTD book and aim towards “weekly review” screen (runway), 10,000’, 20,000’ etc views ?

A potential workaround for weekly review – go to settings, export your Nozbe backup file and print or review in text editor. Gives a complete view of all your actions sorted by project.

For ideas with regards to review, it’s worth looking at how Tracks does it – links to txt/rss/ical feeds for:

Last 15 actions
All actions
Actions due today or earlier
Actions due in 7 days or earlier
Actions completed in the last 7 days
All Contexts
All Projects
Active projects with no next actions
All starred, active actions
Active projects with their actions

If anyone wants a quick and dirty php script that lists all your Projects and all actions in them, then there’s one here:

and for contexts – http://pastie.org/1142368

Or a hosted version (if you trust me not to collect your api-key!) –

http://www.laudachoir.org/nozbe/index.php?api-key=<put your api-key here>

e.g. http://www.laudachoir.org/nozbe/index.php?api-key=xxxbe65xxx90afyyy86eb20cdbfxx3c

and

On a related note, when I’m reviewing all of my projects, how do I add a task to a project? When I’m looking at a project, that’s when I often think of additional tasks that I’d like to add to the list. Thanks.

Delfina 8 Sep 10 08:55

Hello Daniel,

If you go by project then you have “add action” button in your right hand corner of the mid-screen panel.

:-)
Daniel Brogan 10 Sep 10 04:32

That button is available if I’m looking at an individual project, but not if I’m reviewing all projects (by clicking on Projects in the left sidebar). Anyway to add tasks then?

:-)
Delfina 10 Sep 10 07:22

That’s what I was speaking of.. the individual projects. Unfortunately ‘add action” or quick action button is not yet out ;-( I will bump this in our tech list. I’m sorry.

+1 on add action to project from reviewing all projects. I’d also love to see the name of the project on the review page to be a link to the project page. It would make review so much easier.

+1 (each) to:
A “show all tasks” feature in project reiew
Adding tasks while in project review.
Not being asked to “show more actions” when there are none.
