Newbie: Inbox-ing should be much easier (?)

Hi all,

I just signed up for Nozbe after trying almost everything out there from Vitalist to Omifocus, Toodledo, TODO-Online … etc.

I think that Nozbe is the best total package all things considered.

One thing that seems to be lacking in Nozbe—and please correct me if I’m wrong—is an easy way to “Inbox” stuff.

I personally think that one of the core pillars of GTD is Inboxing. I.e., the ability to quickly unload “stuff” from your brain into a collector of some sort for later review.

Now this doesn’t seem to be easy to do in Nozbe. You seem to have to explicitly navigate into the Inbox “project” in order to unload stuff there.

Same thing on the iPhone app. Clicking on the ‘+’ button does not automatically put stuff into your Inbox, but rather in the last project you’ve added tasks to.

I think this is quite cumbersome especially when you’re simply trying to quickly unload a few items and just want to get them straight into your Inbox at the moment without worrying about navigating into a particular project.

Am I missing something here? Or is this a known shortcoming in the software?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

I use a few methods to put things in the Inbox:

1. Email. This is my top method as I am never without the ability to send an email. http://www.nozbe.com/gtd/blog/post-87242f2/now_nozbe_really_loves_your_email-nozbe_will_help_you_get_email_done

2. On the nozbe page just type I (for Inbox) if you are not viewing the Inbox, followed by A (for Add) to add a new task.

3. There is an Add Action to Nozbe bookmarklet for your web browser that I use from time to time. http://www.nozbe.com/gtd/blog/post-fb26c3c/integrate_nozbe_with_gmail_and_mac_s_mailapp_and_osx_thanks_to_a_bookmarklet_and_applescripts

Michael, thanks for your feedback!

Per your suggestion, I first tried the ‘I’ shortcut and it did not work. Looking through the forums, it looks like you need to make your Inbox project the Inbox for the shortcut to even work. For some reason that is not the default setup when you signup and log into your account for the very first time. Also making the Inbox the Inbox moved the Inbox to the top near Next Actions. Which is just awesome—rather than having it lumped with other projects down below.

And it looks like that same fix took care of my iPhone problem. Now after I synced, the Inbox is also separated and clicking the + button on the home screen dumps stuff straight into the Inbox.

I think that does it for me. The Inbox “deficiency” was my only complaint and it looks like it’s been taken care of!

Now if only they would make things even sweeter and add a voice-recording option on the iPhone where with a single button click you can get a voice memo into your Inbox.

But for now I’m not gonna get greedy. I’m a very happy camper after getting really really, tired of trying all these other inferior/incomplete/ugly/cumbersome applications. I mean, to say the least, Vitalist has completely (and I mean completely) abandoned the product.

Well, all the best, and glad to be onboard.

Thanks again Michael, much appreciated.
