Allowing us to treat contexts as an event would be quite nice for enabling us to work more in context as it provides both the frame work to make us start looking at contexts as a possible scheduled time frame to work in,
as well as allowing us to lay out on our calendar when we will work in certain context’s like “calls” “web” Etc.
thus i believe this should be a bit of an option.
Comments:
working in context means that for example – working in our @calls context means we are making all the calls on that list or that we can in a certain amount of time.
working in our @web context means we are taking care of as many tasks in our @web context in a certain amount of time.
working in our @home context is a way of working on all our @home tasks and projects during a certain amount of time.
essentially – the point of it is to schedule working in a certain mindframe or to use certain tools for scheduled time frames.
if you are one who has ever noticed why its easier to make 4 calls in a row or to write 5 emails in a row than to write them/call them sporadically throughout the day – then this makes perfect sense as once we are on a roll using certain tools – we can plow through them much faster and with less cognitive resistance to starting them too.
also, many people write better in the morning – or they do certain other work better in the morning – allowing us to schdule both projects and contexts allows us to set that time aside for the work that we do better at that time, like for example i can decide not to make calls as a whole until noon or later, while i set my writing context to be worked on first thing in the morning.
Also,
if you consider the fact that humans only hold a limited amount of information in their head at any one point – allowing us to schedule projects and contexts would be beneficial for daily reviews as it allows us to think of only the big areas that we will be working. ( though this does not mean we will not be looking over each list) it allows us to think of each context as a mode we enter and then stay in for a predetermined amount of time.
I would like to add another reason to add this simple change.
for certain types of people – organizing their days by periods of the day/routines.
For example – organizing tasks into periods of the day like
1) Morning
2) Afternoon
3) After work
This would allow people who can benefit from thinking of their day as working in certain predefined periods of the day.
I have seen many books and coaching services for types of people that have found this very helpful in organizing their day.
it helps by making the default task in the morning to be “Start working on Morning” period/routine.
it helps them to move forward and maintain certain balance in their life and maintain routines they need to keep up.
and all that is needed is the ability to give contexts a due date and start and stop time.
Why not just have the person click the context that is appropriate? I do not understand why this needs to be automated when so many other useful changes remain to be made.
i suggest this seeing that it wouldnt be that big of a change – it could even be a feature of the week.
but i suggest it as it would allow people to use nozbe in a number of ways if they wish – therfore a context show up in a persons calendar for example would help them with planning.
David,
I’m sorry I do not grasp the logic behind this. You need to do actions and projects… not contexts. Contexts are tools/locations etc. how do I schedule my phone to be done at 8 am on Tuesday? I really do not understand this one.
