Based on using 2.0 Beta
It would be useful to have the option to auto-sort items to which due dates are assigned.
At the moment actions get listed/sorted in the order that they’re added, which I guess works for some. However, for me, and hopefully others too, it makes more sense for items to be sorted with the most imminent at the top, working down in reverse due date order, with those with no due date at the bottom.
Of course, you can manually re-sort (drag and drop) in which case you probably wouldn’t want auto-sorting, so making it optional would be the preference.
Comments:
This would be essential for me – a task that is due today is all the way at the bottom (3 screens down) but a task due in 6 months is top screen! It’s also a pain to sort everything by date manually – especially when I export my tasks to excel
+1
And this is really a closely-related request to one I made, asking for projects to be auto-sorted – by both alpha and by number of open actions in the project.
If you feel that would also be helpful, perhaps you could add your voice to that too?:
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, this is absolutely vital. Whichever way I try to view things – by context, project, whatever – I see the tasks all higgledy-piggledy, as boogie says above. I really hope Michael can sort this quickly. :-(
+1
Count me in.. My Personals list can get big some weeks once I move items from Inbox over without a due date. Would be nice to have a sort by to quickly reorganize them but allowing for also drag/drop order at any time if needed.
I’ve been asking for this since I signed up. Autosort by date would save me TONS of time spent re-ordering my Next Actions. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to use the search feature in my browser to find a task, because it was lost in a great muddle of dates out of order. Aarrggh!
Love, love Nozbe otherwise, but this isn’t just a new feature request IMHO. This is is a bug, and a really annoying one.
Makes perfect sense.
It creates more work for us to have to move them around afterwards.
The only thing i would do – is to create a way for the items added within the last say minute – to take on a light green highlight that would last for a minute – ( make it a light color of the back ground) this way we can easily keep track of where they are – move them around more if needed – and right click or some other action to make the highlight disapeer – or just wait it out.
I agree with the need for auto-sorting in Nozbe. IMHO, you should be able to sort by any action field including name, time, context, date, project, etc.
I supsect it’s been left out thus far because it conflicts with the manual drag-and-drop sorting feature, so as Paul says, there would need to be an option to toggle between manual and auto sorting. I hope this isn’t a case of a feature being left out due to GTD-purity (i.e. Sorting=Priority Scheme=Not GTD). Perhaps Delfina or Michael could comment?
+1 would be a great addition
Yes it is on the list of possible improvements. A week ago I had a meeting with Michael on all the feature requests we have been receiving. I made a point to mention this one (personally also would like to have NA auto-sorted by date&time). The tech is right now reviewing the list to see what is easy and can be added immediately and what features need more work or are not possible. Hopefully Michael will post on blog the road map soon.
Can you help us understand why x features are not possible?
This is another part of the functionality that can be addressed with beefed up sorting and filtering in Nozbe. In the Calendar list, I have noticed that you cannot rearrange the order of the tasks under each day. If you drag and drop, it goes back to the same order. Hopefully this can be modified by adding sorting options, whether it be auto-sorting, controlled by a system parameter, or real-time sorting selectable as a list option.
This sorting on date has been promised for months now and I would like to know when it will be implemented. The option of manually sorting with drag & drop is cumbersome if you have to move a lot of tasks, which I often have to do. I don’t understand the resistance to implementing this change. I waste a lot of time every week looking over multiple screens and having to move the tasks around to correspond to due date. The is absolutely no logic I can see to having the Next Actions lists in anything other than due date, with overdue first and on to the bottom with future dates. When can we get some action on this?
This has been requested in this dialog 18 months ago. I don’t think that’s such a good example of rapid response to user needs. If you are not going to do it, say so. But the first response from Delfina was one year after the initial post and here we are six months later and no change and no information as to when it might be adopted. With the new features on the forum postings, I hope Michael will make an effort to have his organization be more rapidly responsive to our needs and requests. Saying no is OK, and if you say no or if you say we will address that in the next quarter or the first half of next year, that’s OK too, provided you meet those deadlines.
Hello John,
I can’t honestly say ‘No’ if I’m aware that our team is planning to introduce some feature similar to requested here. WE have recently hired new people for the team to speed up the process of improving Nozbe and I hope that this will help us move things ahead and fulfill wishes such as this one. Up until few weeks ago it was only Michael and Tom, with so help now and then from outside working on improving Nozbe. I’m not trying here to find an excuse for why this is taking so long, only want you to take into consideration that 2 pair of hands might have been a bit overloaded until now. I hope here for you understanding.
Any updates on this? I am “trial” user, and this feature would be important to me in being willing to pay for it. There’s no reason for me to take time to enter dates and times if that information isn’t going to be reflected in how it sorts. Thanks.
@luannpjennings
Well it is still darn’n‘drop. All I can do is add your voice for this feature. I do support that personally, as it would certainly make life easier for many of us.
that would work for me
AGREE.....
I need to drag and drop all tasks manually even the tasks are assigned date/time, and also I need to drag and drop 4 times in Next Actions/Projects/Calendar/Contexts interfaces respectively.
I spend my time to drag and drop, NOT GTD.
This feels like the single most urgent feature to develop. No info on if/when this feature might be implemented?
As far as I know it will be added, but not knowing yet when. I’m sorry.
any updates?
I agree with the earlier comment that this feature is the most urgent (and the most obvious). Relying upon drag and drop to order actions by due date quickly becomes a big time waster once users get beyond a small number of actions under each project. I am certainly not a developer, but actions (list) sorting seems like rather basic functionality to leave out.
@Jon, I do agree with your that it is a basic feature and I do hope it will be rolled in soon. We just had a recrutiment weekend and it seems we got some new candidates coming in within next month. I hope their appearance will speed the thing up, as sorting is not the only aspect I feel needs improvement.
That would work for me – the option to sort by due date within a project, with those items without dates at the bottom. In the beta version now, the alphabetical listing isn’t that useful
