I think that GTDs “Next Action” concept is simple and straight forward.
It’s the implementation of “Someday / Maybe” lists that bugs me. The only way I found out to put tasks in a someday list is by defining a context, but the usage gets clumbsy.
I might not want to “call a friend” as a next action, but the context will be “@phone” regardless of that and not “someday”. If I take a look at the @phone context filter, the item will not be there.
there’s more. I can have items as “someday” context AND “next action”, which is inconsistent.
How do you deal with this ? Any tips ?
In my opinion, there should be an “Someday” option similar to the “next action” star. one click stars (next action) the item. two clicks turns the item to the “someday” (hourglass logo) list (and maintains correct context of the item).
Context filters would be FAR more intuitive. There would be “starred” items, non starred items and “someday” items. Everything within the proper context.
In my opinion, just as we have an “next action” filter below the logo, there should be a “Someday” filter as well.
What do you think ?
