Android, Desktop, Japanese search and our strategy going forward

It’s an exciting time for us here at Nozbe.

We’ve shifted our strategy a lot these past few months to make sure we can deliver you the best features and best user experience in the months to come. Our forums are pretty busy with questions so let’s address some of the most burning issues right here:

1. Our mobile strategy

Our newest version of Android client is not yet perfect but it’s getting there. We’re fully comitted to the platform and we’ll be rolling out fixes and improvements over the summer to make sure you get the best experience ever. We’ll soon introduce localized versions of our client (Japanese, Spanish, German, Polish, Dutch and French).

Mobile web is coming. Our old iNozbe site is getting a significant facelift and will be greatly improved with new features, layout and offline mode. It will be a fantastic alternative to our native clients to help you get even more done on the go.

Blackberry and Windows Phone users – there is not going to be a native version of Nozbe on these platforms until we see more traction there. The good news is that the new mobile web version will work very well on these phones.

2. Our desktop strategy

I’m actually about to board my plane to Tokyo, Japan right now to show off the initial version of our Desktop client. World premiere will take place in an event held in Apple Store Ginza in Tokyo. This is the direction we’re heading – to make you switch from the web client to a native application.

It will feature not only a beautiful, clean design but will be awesomely fast and of course… will work offline and sync seamlessly with Nozbe.com. Our desktop app will work on both PC and Mac :-)

3. Our web strategy

Meanwhile as we’ll be testing our desktop app, our web app will also receive some love. Nozbe.com will receive a long-deserved face-lift featuring lighter design and color themes.

We’ll be fixing bugs and introducing more features (we just introduced search in Japanse!).

Due to an imminent desktop client we belive it’s time to discontinue Nozbe.com offline mode as well as the backup and restore function – it’s something we stopped developing as you’ll have your Nozbe.com data on your computer at all times in the native app.

Other new most requested features like new Project Templates and advanced printing will also be introduced to the Desktop app first.

We are very excited about the future!

Nozbe.com is heading towards the same direction as our good partners Evernote and Dropbox with native apps that sync in a cloud and a very robust web client. Thanks to the Mac Appstore and the direction where Mac OSX Lion is heading, the native apps are back again and with the power of the cloud and seamless sync will enable you to get more done and boost your productivity even more!

Thanks so much for being a great Nozbe user – it’s your support and encouragement that motivates us to move forward and improve your favorite productivity app. We love our job and we wouldn’t want to change it for anything!

July will be a very exciting month for all of us. Stay tuned.

Yours,

- Michael “Nozbe” Sliwinski,

It all sounds great! Thank you, Michael and Nozbe team!

This is wonderful news. I commented on why I felt this was the ideal strategy on my blog. I am very happy and excited that Nozbe is headed done this path.

Very excited about this direction. It is so nice to be able to use a great tool and not have to be married to a single platform…I use Android, a PC and a MacBook and this is simply the best tool to have my lists on all 3 all the time!

Great news. Any idea when the desktop app and online updates will be available?

:-)

Desktop app is a great idea, but really disappointed about Blackberry. Why don’t you set up a survey to canvas people? It might be a Europe thing, but over here, BB is device of choice for business at present.

Thanks guys for your support!

Michael Koehler just posted an update to his Windows Client: ReVuDo so Windows users – do check it out.

Our official desktop app will work on both PC and Mac but we’ll happily support also 3rd party clients like the ReVuDo :-)

We’ll post the first shots on Friday hopefully with a downloadable app to test in “beta”.

@Andy – we don’t say no forever to BB, we just decided to focus first on majority of users and finish up the Desktop app – in a few months we’ll explore BB market again and decide if we should go that route. We have all the groundwork ready for that. BTW, the new Nozbe mobile web app will work almost entirely offline, too.

This does sound like a great move for Nozbe and for us. I use PC and just got an Android phone, I also use Evernote and Dropbox and the local app (mobile or desktop) coupled with seemless sync and multiple platforms seems the best way to go.

Finally got my team up and running on this. Advanced printing and the desktop app will be a great reward for them. They get the system, now I get to say “look, it is faster and easier now!”

Can’t wait.

Thank Michael. Any chance you can give us target release dates for each of these features?

:-)

Sound great Michael, do you some a place for Google Docs integration as well?
