First Video Demo of Nozbe 2.0 in action!

We’re busier after the launch of Nozbe 2.0 than before I guess, but it’s a good thing :-)

Today I decided to quickly record a quick 5-minute screencast showing how Nozbe 2.0 works in action – just the basics, I’ll post a screencast with advanced features later. Enjoy!

Nozbe is awesome in the browser, but I would really like to see an Adobe Air application like Wizehive has. I am also a little dissapointed that you have no collaboration options that are free for families or couples. Thanks!

:-)
Mickey Mellen 13 Aug 09 21:29

Alex,

I’m quite sure you can all just get individual free plans and collaborate that way. The collaboration functions in Nozbe are very well thought-out, and you can collaborate with any other Nozbe user, even if they’re not in your “family plan” or whatever.

:-)
Nick Bomford 13 Aug 09 23:45

I get the feeling that Michael is using the distraction method – putting up a new blog so that people don’t see the bad reception that has been given to the previous blog (all about the new v.2). Cynical, moi?

:-)
Michael 14 Aug 09 01:00

Nick, I’m sorry you don’t like new Nozbe. However on this blog my users actually like new Nozbe and they are working with me on making it really perfect and I’m very excited about it.

I’m posting very frequently because stuff is happening and we’re making quick updates to Nozbe 2.0. We’ve just added filters to Next Actions and we’re working hard as per my last post.

:-)
Michael 14 Aug 09 01:04

Alex – Mickey is right – you can collaborate freely with even free accounts – the Family plan and beyond are for teams/families who need several Nozbe paying accounts and who want more advanced collaboration options.

Mickey, thanks for helping and for the heads up! Your blog post was a great compliment – thanks!

Michael — No problem. I’m a big Nozbe fan. I was a bit nervous when 2.0 first launched, but I’m liking it more and more as I get used to it!

:-)
Ray Anderson 14 Aug 09 04:01

Thank you for adding filtering so quickly! I am a big Nozbe fan, and I am enjoying 2.0.

In my opinion Nozbe is the most functional GTD app with iPhone support right now. Unlike other option packed GTD apps (Omnifocus etc.), it is very straight forward application designed so you can get in, quickly add or review an action to be done and get on with doing it. Remember, the more time you spend organizing a GTD app, the less time you have to actually get things done!
My only criticism on Nozbe is its look. I’m digging the new green, but overall it just needs to be dressed up a little more, because in the end, it’s all going to be about who can create an app that is a)sexy, b)functional but yet incredibly simple to us.

:-)
James Golden 14 Aug 09 14:44

I think it is a great GTD app! And I have probably used or tried most if not all of them out there. Including the paper variaties. We need to remember these are all tools, and as such they really are only a function of the system, not the product or focus of it.

I would have to disagree with Nicks comments that Michael is hiding the negative comments. He outlined all the valid complaints and gave justified 2 of the changes (fonts and design), mentioned 2 things they had already fixed (within 24 hours, that is fast), clarified 3 misconceptions and let us know 2 features that will be coming in the future weeks in his very next post. I went back and looked through the old comments and he hit on every valid complaint that people made.

I say valid because things like, “I don’t like the looks” are subjective. Although he did touch on some of those anyway. I do like the new look and there are several major sites that use green as the theme. Go to opensuse.com and see one for yourself.

Michael is right when it comes to font sizing and spacing. If you want a huge list of projects then you are not using GTD correctly. You can’t work on all them at once, it just crowds your mind. You should have a project called “Someday/Maybe” or “Future Projects” that should list your those projects out that you are not currently working on. Make notes on them if you want to keep track of the initial thoughts, etc… When they become in progress projects (i.e. in your weekly review), then move it into your project list with a full list of tasks, including next actions, notes, etc…

GTD is all about freeing your mind of remembering todo’s into a trusted system, and focusing on a few projects and tasks so you can be more efficient and effective.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks Michael for your continued efforts and work on Nozbe.

Wow James, thanks for great comment and great testimonial – glad someone’s noticing our efforts and work – I’m very happy you like new Nozbe and understand the rationale behind the redesign :-)

I’m also liking the simplicity. I’ve used other apps (web-based and non) and though the bells and whistles first attracted me I found that there were too many and I couldn’t focus as well. I’m gonna stick with Nozbe for a while and see if that fixes me up. So far, so good!

Penny Grubb 15 Aug 09 21:33

I like the look of Nozbe 2, but I can only say that on the basis of the video. Since it launched I haven’t been able to use it at all. The middle panel of my screen remains subbornly blank with the word ‘Loading…’ above it no matter what I click on or how long I leave it. It is not great for productivity that I cannot get at any of my projcts to amend or update. I emailed for help but have had no response. Can anyone help me out here??

:-)
Mickey Mellen 16 Aug 09 04:45

Penny — Sorry for the problems. What browser are you using? It still has issues with some. I’d recommend the latest version of Firefox — though there’s no excuse for it to behave like it is for you.

:-)
CLD 16 Aug 09 08:11

I’m using both Firefox and Safari. No problems here. Sounds like a browser problem.

:-)
Michael 16 Aug 09 13:25

Penny, please report your problem to questions AT nozbe DOT com and we’ll investigate what’s happening in your case. Make sure to reload the page properly and try again and email us with your browser and operating system settings. I’ve checked our support logs and didn’t find any email from you, so please do contact us.

Everyone who has any problems with new Nozbe 2.0 is welcome to send us an email – we’re replying quickly and want to help! Thanks.

:-)
Rafael Prandi 16 Aug 09 17:00

Penny, i had the same problem and it turned out to be a Greasemonkey script that was no longer compatible with Nozbe 2.0 . Can’t recall the name because i deleted it already. Maybe it is your case ?

:-)
Penny Grubb 16 Aug 09 20:10

Thank you for the feedback, everyone. I will do as you advise as soon as I have the time. Currently juggling day jobs plus a deadline for a publisher, so a bit pushed for time. After I posted, I found the button to go back to Nozbe ver 1, so have done that as a temporary fix.
Michael, I replied to the email you sent out 14 Aug, so not sure why it didn’t arrive.
I’m on IE8, btw, so maybe that’s the problem.

:-)
Dale McConkey 17 Aug 09 04:02

I have the same problem as Penny when using IE8. Other browsers work well, though 2.0 is quite sluggish (regardless of browser) when moving between pages (but very fast when working within any page).

:-)
Michael 17 Aug 09 08:11

We’ll look into IE8 and test it more there.

Dale, did you measure how much time Nozbe v.1 takes to load a project against v.2? I’m sure even with big projects it may take some time but it should be way faster.

:-)
Sathyam Karyala 9 Jul 10 15:11

Michael, can you make sure that the videos you post here are viewable in the iDevices? Otherwise, I am loving Nozbe.

:-)
Stacia Lynch 1 Aug 10 15:16

How about Android? It’s too cumbersome to use the web version. I subscribe then unsubscribe in frustration though I love it on my MAC.

:-)
Joern Steinhauer 28 Feb 11 15:47

I’m missing the reminder functions. I would like to have a reminder email, sms or twitter message, if a task is overdue…

:-)
arvind s grover 15 Aug 11 15:03

Stacia, the Android app is in beta, but it is quite usable for me. It is available here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nozbe.droid
