Biggest registrar's technical problems caused Nozbe downtime

Michael   Sunday, March 11

In my last blog post I explained how top-notch security and great technical infrastructure is essential in running a web application… but sometimes you can do nothing to prevent downtime.

Today something unprecedented happened – our domain registrar, who is also running our nameservers (servers that point our Nozbe.com domain to our server where we run our web application) had a major technical difficulty. We were offline almost two hours…

...and I couldn’t do anything about it. Our domain registrar is the biggest one in the world, I don’t know how many web-sites and domains were affected by these technical problems… but I’m guessing millions were down…

Something like this has not happened in many years… I never remember anything like this.

Now that we are back online, we are just figuring out what can be done to prevent going offline because of issues like this… and we will definitely learn a lesson or two from this…

You can never prevent everything, there will always be something that will surprise you – just like today with our domain registrar – the most important thing is to take it as a new lesson and learn from it to make the web application even less vulnerable to such incidents…

Have a great week – tomorrow we have a nice announcement for you :-)
