New iOS (iPhone & iPad) apps with Dropbox support... and Nozbe for the Mac

You might have noticed that last week our iPhone and iPad apps have been finally updated with new functionality and speedier sync.

First of all the Macoscope (guys who are building the iOS apps for us) have finally brought back the iPad app functionality to the iPhone with “delegated actions” and “unread comments” views.

Both apps now also offer push notifications for due dates, project sharing and task delegations so that you’re always in the loop even on the go.

Then they decided to be faster than Nozbe.com app and introduced the dropbox support in the iOS apps – you can now access dropbox files relevant to your current project or context:

How Dropbox Support works

In your project view you get access to your Dropbox files with names matching your current project name. If you have a folder named exactly like your project title, application shows every file in that folders.

Every file which name contains your current project name will also be shown. The same rules apply to your context view. However, due to API limitations and performance reasons application searches only two levels of your Dropbox folder hierarchy.

Isn’t that cool? Both iPhone app and the iPad app can be bought in the Appstore, if you still don’t have them.

New Nozbe for the Mac

We’ve covered many ways you can access your Nozbe.com account and on the desktop we liked Fluid or Prism projects to make Nozbe.com a stand-alone app instead of a tab in the browser window.

The good iOS developers from Macoscope found a cool way to make a nice window-wrapper for your Nozbe.com account so that you can get things done better and in a more focused way. It’s not a native offline client but it’s very close, just have a look:

Good guys from Macoscope are offering this app for a small fee in the Mac Appstore.

Dropbox in Nozbe.com

Although you already have Dropbox files on your desktop, we are also brining Dropbox support to the Nozbe.com web app so that you can instantly see all your relevant Dropbox files on one project or context page.

The integration will work in a similar way like on the iOS apps and is coming this week so watch out for the web update. It works like a magic, can’t wait to show it to you :-)

While I appreciate updates to the Nozbe apps, I don’t like either the number badging or push notifications. When I first launched the iPad app after the update I said “No” to the question of whether I wanted to allow notifications. In Notification Settings under Nozbe this shows up correctly as an Off-Off-Off setting to Notifications, Alerts and Badges; however, the app is showing me the number badge and sending me notifications/alerts anyway. I am greeted with a barrage of “due today” notifications when I launch the app, which isn’t useful to me at all. I have deferred updating the iPhone version of the app for this reason, so can’t access any of your other new features.

Hi Michael, since this is about new features and iOS apps: I ´m still waiting for news of NOZBE integration with iOS calendar! that would help my life immensely!

Love the Nozbe Mac app. Very cool indeed, even if it isn’t “offline”. One problem with the Mac app, the “Inbox” button on tool bar does not work. Also, if I click on the Account or Setting buttons within the Nozbe app, it opens up in my browser – shouldn’t these display within the app?

I like that Nozbe is now integrated with Dropbox. However I think it would be useful to be able to add certain files with a completely different name than a project to a project and and/or to tasks

@Mike – thanks for your feedback, Macoscope guys are fixing this.
@Jaques – thanks for good idea :-)
@Kevin – glad you like it, I’ll let guys know about your suggestions
@Jeff – if a file is in a folder which contains the same name as project, it will show up, too!

Any update on Dropbox support in the webapp? I’m very excited to try out this feature!!

I thought by the announcement that Dropbox would be available in the Web App and the Mac App by now. Any updates?

We just did :-)

I’m unable to use either the Mac or ipad apps – the ipad app just sits there completely frozen, and the Mac app refuses to accept my logon – money wasted on both of these – how disappointing! How are others getting these to work??
