Nozbe desktop beta3 and a speedy Android app

Michael   Saturday, August 6
Comments: 47

We just pushed new updates to our new flagship applications:

Nozbe desktop is now a beta3

On both Mac and Windows Nozbe beta3 is out and it has several enhancements:

  • New: Evernote support!
  • New: Dropbox support!
  • New: Basic file support
  • New: “New Comments” view (same as “Unread Comments” on the web)
  • Mac OSX Lion-styling (Mac version)
  • speed of syncing and working greatly improved
  • Better support for comments and task sharing
  • support for colors in projects
  • lots of bug fixes and stability enhancements

We’re determined to shipping our desktop app weekly and next week will bring many new features and some surprising UI changes and improvements, so stay tuned. In this version we wanted to improve our codebase and in the next one we’ll bring you even more goodies (and hopefully seamless sync, too).

Click to download the Mac version (Lion compatible)

Click to download the Windows version (XP, Vista and 7)

Android app is SO MUCH faster

Yesterday we also shipped the fastest version of our Android app better. We didn’t bring many new features, but we focused on speed:

  • Speed of initial sync up to 5 times better
  • Better support of BIG Nozbe accounts (folks like me who have lots of projects and actions)
  • Faster navigating (above all Next Actions and Calendar views)
  • Lots of bug fixes… really lots of them.
  • Did I mention speed?

Update your Nozbe app or get it from the Android Market

Now we’re focused on bringing some more new features and UI improvements to the Android app, too. We want to ship it on a regular basis, too – to make sure we’ll support all the possible Android headsets. Please go to our Nozbe Forum and let us know with detailed feedback how is the app behaving on your headset.

Thanks so much for your support and have a great weekend!

Looking good Michael! Can’t seem to add files to Mac desktop version, however I can sync files from web app to Mac desktop. Hoping this gets resolved in next beta release. Keep up the great work.

I had issue with opening a PDF file. Consumed whole Nozbe App window and had could not navigate back to application. Had to quit app.

Jean-Michel Fayard 6 Aug 11 19:13

the nozbe app crashs at startup with my Samsung Galaxy S :)

:-)
ken 7 Aug 11 15:50

@Jeff – I had the same problem.. here’s how you get back to desktop app: click on PDF or JPEG and press ‘delete’ button on keyboard. Not really intuitive but it worked.

:-)
Marcin 8 Aug 11 12:53

sorry guys, but the android app force closes on login. Samsung Galaxy S, 2.3.3. no mobile app is a dealbreaker for me :(

:-)
Martin Barus 8 Aug 11 14:21

In Windows app when I change task order in next action wiev app stuck and I cant do anything maybe 30 seconds. After that I can continue to work.

:-)
Solari 8 Aug 11 21:42

How do you get the OS X app to remember your window size after you resize it to your preference? It seems to reset back to the default size every time it reloads.

Thanks!

:-)
Rob Horst 9 Aug 11 17:01

like the desktop client, but is there a way to add a quick add feature that would allow a user to hit Ctrl + N to add a new action on the fly. It would be great to not have to open the client or go to the web to add a new action. Thanks!

:-)
Bryce Fricke 9 Aug 11 19:15

Love the Android app. However, it looks a bit strange on a tablet. Obviously a full-on tablet version would be great, but just making it scale up more nicely would be a big improvement. Also, I get sporadic force closes on the tablet. Acer Iconia A500 running 3.1

Please add way to know what labels you are viewing on Mac desktop. The dropdown menu allows you to choose, but you can’t tell what labels you are filtering unless you select dropdown menu. Name of label should be visible on Mac desktop like it is on web app.

:-)
ken 10 Aug 11 15:05

Remove date from task option does not work on mac app

:-)
Shaun McDonnell 12 Aug 11 01:42

It would be pretty awesome if you open-sourced some of these. Ever thought about doing that?

:-)
Dimitri Hofman 12 Aug 11 16:48

Desktop tool does not work for me. Installs without error. But as I try to log in from the start screen, I get the error “Request:Null”.
I am stuck here. Any tips?

:-)
Erik Bijlsma 16 Aug 11 12:31

I don’t see Evernote and Dropbox support. Can somebody help me?

:-)
Christian Pohle 20 Aug 11 09:10

When reordering Tasks within the “Next Actions” View, the Windows Application stops responding for a minute or two. Could you please have a look at this?

:-)
Victoria Pile 21 Aug 11 08:56

I have the same issue as Dimitri. I get the error message “Request: Null”......

:-)
jaro 21 Aug 11 17:40

Please, fix Android app. Now it dont sync with server, so it is useless :(

:-)
Malte Weber 22 Aug 11 10:33

i really miss something like an automated sync on the desktop version…

:-)
Hrvoje Marjanovic 23 Aug 11 08:50

It’s missing essential feature, in next actions, I want to filter by label, not possible.

:-)
Andrew 23 Aug 11 13:57

Request Error: Null when logging in

:-)
Curtis 24 Aug 11 17:33

First off, I really like the new desktop app. Fast, Clean, and friendly :).
Please consider the following observations:
-need orginal date of tasks, missing.
-need to be able to sort and filter ‘next actions’.
-Need to be able to edit/delete comments. Also enable cut/copy/paste for comments.
-Pics for Context are not matching web vs. desktop for Windows.
-Please enable Keyboard commands, maybe a toggle for idevices vs. standard keyboard users.
Great potential in the desktop, thanks for all of your efforts :)

Szymon Szymczyk 24 Aug 11 18:33

Latest Android App, Samsung 5700 “Spica”: can’t sync. On the list of project there’s correct number of task in each project but when I open project it’s empty – no tasks. When I tried to send a message with description of a bug there was an error – I couldn’t send it.

:-)
Brian Dunbar 24 Aug 11 20:58

Is there a way to make the projects list wider? This has always been an issue with web app, but I can understand that given web limitations. Now that there is a native app, there is no reason to artificially limit the width of projects.

:-)
christheberge 25 Aug 11 04:32

this may be a silly and ignorant question, but why can the desktop app just emulate the web app ? the web app is so robust and has so much functionality, i have no interest in using a version with less features when i am offline … am i missing something ?

:-)

Max 25 Aug 11 13:42

Android BUG!
In Android native app I cannot select in categories and any other list on tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab) – the list items are covering the buttons.

:-)
matt Pickston 25 Aug 11 16:20

Can we print the tasks?

:-)
nevo hadas 26 Aug 11 05:51

it keeps on crashing on my mac running lion?

:-)
Doug Friedlander 27 Aug 11 15:34

On August 6 when you first released this, you indicated you were committed to weekly releases of the app. I have faithfully checked back several times per week for the last three weeks and there has been not a single update nor any information provided about a revised release date. Can you tell us when we can reasonably expect the more fully-featured version? I’ve been holding out not looking at any other competing apps because I have so much hope that Nozbe will meet my needs but it’s just not there yet and it’s difficult living in suspended animation in an information vacuum. Thanks in advance… and don’t forget the full keyboard functionality!

:-)
Björn Zinkler 27 Aug 11 15:54

Today I released the first version of Nozbe Quick Tasks: http://blog.zinkler.com/nozbe-quick-tasks/ – Try it and be productive!

:-)
Noah Green 29 Aug 11 17:24

Just tried Windows Beta 3 on Windows 7. Hangs for about 30 seconds every single time I try to reorder task in Next Actions. My Sometimes it freezes altogether. My suggestion: prioritize stability over Evernote / Dropbox / Cloud-App-of-the-Month support. Also, like the iPhone app, it doesn’t have a filter for Next Actions.

:-)
Eduardo 29 Aug 11 19:17

I can’t install it on my Samsung Galaxy 5 (i5500) Android phone. It says that this app is not compatible with it… =(

:-)
赤坂 忠久 30 Aug 11 09:36

I can’t install Beta 3 Windows 7. Please help me.

:-)
Justin Walker 30 Aug 11 14:33

Force close on Samsung Galaxy S!!!!

:-)
Matthew West 31 Aug 11 21:15

I mentioned this back in August, but it was not fixed in beta 3. When you enter a new project, and apply a label to it, it will not maintain the label. So to find it, you have to go to “show all projects” before you can enter a new action. I love the desktop app and have wanted this for a long time, but find this very inefficient.

Should have mentioned using XP

Bill Stokes 6 Sep 11 11:30

Like the mobile App. Suggestions are as follows.

1. The context icons on the Next Actions screen are too small.

2. I’m getting occasional Force Close on my HTC Desire (version 2.2).

3. I can’t see how to filter Next Actions by Context.

4. Suggest that you do not need to include functionality to maintain contexts in the mobile App.

:-)
R Dove 6 Sep 11 21:16

Please describe how to set up evernote/dropbox on the pc app. I don’t see this as an option.

:-)
Fabian Hoppe 20 Sep 11 10:50

Hi,

the offline client for nozbe is definitely a great app, though is has some potential for improvement:

1. Due dates get messed up during sync btw. the offline and the online client
2. The offline client should either be able to cache evernote documents or interface with the evernote client on the same platform (iOS , Windows or Mac). When I’m offline (e.g. train oder plane) I still would like to work with associated documents.

cheers, Fabian

Anyone know when the final version is set to release? Still using the version from the Mac app store until desktop is completed…

:-)
nevo hadas 17 Oct 11 04:34

the mac desktop crashes quiet often on lion when trying to sync

:-)
Paul Nola 22 Oct 11 14:20

Hi, first of all I’d like to say the desktop idea is a great one. I initially started using Nozbe because OmniFocus is limited to the Mac (I consider this the best GTD program overall) but have missed the offline capability in Nozbe, so great stuff. One comment, I have tried the desktop in both Mac and PC versions now and don’t seem to be able to drag an item to a context or project. Is this a bug, or something you are still working on?

:-)
Doug Friedlander 26 Oct 11 04:28

I don’t mean to be a pest but it’s been two months since I posted asking for any kind of update on what happened to the “weekly releases” and haven’t even got a response to that. Can we get some kind of timeline / prediction for a full functionality pc desktop release?

:-)
Rob Pilgrim 2 Nov 11 02:29

I’m having the same “Request Error: Null” when logging in as so many others – using Windows XP at work. Using Windows 7 at home its fine, but as I use it for synch projects it’s only half a solution so far.

:-)
Jeff Templon 18 Nov 11 22:33

I agree with Bill Stokes:

3. I can’t see how to filter Next Actions by Context.

Or it would be ok if for each context, you could ask the app to only display the next actions.

:-)
Justin Lugbill 1 Feb 12 07:38

I think it’s about time we got a functional android tablet app. It seriously hinders the functionality of Nozbe. Is there an ETA on when this will be done?
