Due Dates and Repeating Actions - major Nozbe update

One of the most requested features for Nozbe – your favorite Getting Things Done web application has always been "due dates" and "repeating tasks".

Many people just need to add dates to tasks and I can’t blame them… I’ve actually found myself needing this feature for quite a while… so there it is:

Due Dates and Repeating Tasks in Nozbe!

Nozbe has been designed with simplicity in mind, so whenever I’m adding new feature I have to remember that I need to keep Nozbe simple – so this is how adding dates and repeating tasks looks like in Nozbe:

Just click on the "New Action" button or edit your current action to add date to it and you will see the same form you are used to:

... only with one small thing – you can now click on the link "Due Date (optional)" and you will see this:

Now you can select your due date with a handy date-selector (just click on the button next to date field):

If you prefer to write a date, it hasn’t been easier – just see how Nozbe intelligently understands dates and times:

You can also select an option for repeating this task every day, every week… etc.

Once you’re done, your new task with due date set for today and set to repeat every once in a while will look like this:

Easy, isn’t it?

Bottom line: Your Nozbe actions look the same as usual… but you can now set due dates and set actions to repeat every now and then.

Note that:

  • You can repeat your actions
    • every day
    • every weekday
    • every week
    • every other week (every 2 weeks)
    • every month
    • every half a year
    • every year
  • If you set an action to repeat without setting the date – today will be selected
  • Nozbe is automatically setting as "Next Actions" tasks for today after midnight your time so you will never forget what’s due.
  • If your action is passed due – it will be marked in red
  • iNozbe users – we will update iNozbe to reflect the changes over this weekend

Final comments:

This is not the end – we will add a handy Nozbe Calendar in the future so you will be able to see your upcoming tasks for this week and month, etc.

Hope you like these two new features in Nozbe – and if you’re not using Nozbe yet, get your free account to try them – and post your comments on our Forums.

Can I add a repeat to do every 3 months / every quarter? Like pay my quarterly taxes?

:-)
Michael 30 Jun 08 21:24

For now you can’t but we’ll consider enabling it during our newest Nozbe update. Thanks for the suggestion.

My repeating to do’s lose their context. Is there a trick to avoid this? It’s time consuming to fix it every week, or two weeks.

:-)
Isobel Munoff 31 Oct 08 14:33

is there a way to change the time format. I prefer the 1-12 AM/PM rather than military time. Thanks.

My repeating tasks disappear after I complete them once.

:-)
Alan J Leeds 28 Apr 09 15:56

I’m having the same problem as Will. Is this a bug?

:-)
JFH 2 Sep 09 14:16

As of Sept 2nd, the problem of disappearing repeating tasks still exists. I have just checked a repeating task as completed and I can’t find it at the next schedule date. This is a major nuisance!

Same problem with the disapearing repeating task also more customized repeats such as quarterly, first weekday, last Friday, etc would be a major upgrade. Thanks

How do I get a task listed as “Planned for This Week” insteadof planned for a specific day?

:-)
Jim Foley 1 Sep 10 16:17

The system is great but basically ignores the recurring task box. Recurring tasks are a major part of my system. Is this being addressed or am i doing something wrong?

:-)
Duncan Blake 13 Sep 10 22:02

I will add to the list of people for whom the recurring task does not work. I tick complete and it does not automatically create a new task on the next scheduled date. Am I doing something wrong?

Is it possible for an action to have two dates? I often have a task that I need to schedule for some time in the future, say a week before the due date. If I could set a “start date” on which the action would get promoted to a “Next Action”, the I could ignore the action until it was time to pay attention to it, and then still have time to get it done.

i feel ripped off now!! my repeat is not working either!!

:-)
Daniel Raduta 25 Nov 10 12:27

I too have the same problem with completing a recurring task.
Although nozbe has proved good by now for me, the staff attitude is far from what I expected. This is the second issue I reported and received no answer. No answer is much worse for me than “It seems we have a bug. We will fix it in the next release, sorry for the inconvenience”.

:-)

If this repeating task issue is addressed somewhere else, could someone from nozbe please tell us where it is? A lot of people are being ignored here. This is a MAJOR drawback!! Especially when it’s advertised to actually do something.

:-)
Anthony 5 Apr 11 19:27

Experiencing the repeated task issue as well.

Wendy St. John 26 Aug 11 05:45

Question: is it possible to set a repeating alert that won’t appear in my task list until the due date? For example, I have a repeating task to remember to check for uploaded files for school every Sunday, and I don’t need to see that task over and over throughout the week, as the files won’t even be there until Sunday. I’d just like something to pop up at a specified time, without having to see it the rest of the week. Is this possible? If not, can I request it as a possible feature for the future? Thanks!
