We’ve got some die-hard GTDers as Nozbe users (myself included) and some of you have been rightfully complaining about Nozbe not being fully “compilant” with David Allen’s Getting Things Done methodology. That’s true, we want Nobe to be a Simple GTD solution, but we also want to satisfy the true GTDers, too. Well, it will be remedied in forthcoming months and we’ve started with…
Introducing “INBOX”
We’ve been debating how to introduce Inbox without cluttering the Nozbe interface and decided to do it like this:
1. Go to a project you want to be your Inbox and click on “more” and later “make it my inbox”:
... and now the magic happens and….
2. You have a full-fledged GTD-powered Inbox!
That’s right – now you have an Inbox where everything goes. Moreover if you use tag “inbox” in Evernote, all your Evernote notes will also go there. How cool is that?
Added bonus – Inbox coming to the iPhone app
Yes, the new iPhone app developed by Macoscope will also feature the same Inbox and will sync to your Inbox – the newest beta is already capable of this, here’s the acutal screenshot:

I’m sure you’ll all get a lot more done with the Inbox coming to both the web and the iPhone app!
Technorati tags: nozbe, iphone, evernote, gtd, productivity
Comments:
Brilliant implementation of the inbox.
I see such an implementation applying to other aspects of nozbe as well. Pretty cool.
Thanks for the heads up guys! We wanted to make it as sleek as possible :-)
Mickey, you’re right, there’s too much space there, I’ll try to squeeze it a little with our developer tomorrow :-)
I like it as well but isn’t it really just semantics? It has an icon and looks good but it’s basically just a project flagged as an inbox. What is really gained by it?
Did something happen? I’m missing the “Make this my Inbox” link in my account.
OK. It’s now pushed to my account.
Funny how something so simple can make such a difference. Thanks!
Here’s to Single Actions and Someday/Maybe in the future!
I really like it !!
Rod, life is semantics. If we name something different we usually feel different about it. I never wanted Inbox in Nozbe, didn’t need it, had a project for that. But over time people convinced me that this semantics makes a huge difference. And as you can see from the comments, people really like it :-)
BTW, now that I have it in my Nozbe, I like it, too… weird, hah?
Love the inbox. I second the suggest to tighten up the whitespace. When you have lots of projects things easy get spread out and make it more difficult to file/organize actions.
Love it love it love it, thank you!!
Are there any special features of the Inbox that differentiate it from a project? I could not find any user documentation explaining it, so I suppose it is just a project by another name as far as the logic of its use. The only thing I have noticed is when I add a new Action, Inbox is put in as the default Project. If there is some other different functionality, can you tell us what it is?
yes, can you provide a little more explanation on what “not being fully compliant” means and how such compliance benefits us?
When you add a new capability, make sure we know the benefit not just the feature. Thanks.
For now the benefit is that it’s visually outside of the project realm and that it’s the default place you put tasks, notes and files into.
In short – now you can have a real collection bucket and later distribute stuff to other projects or just get them done there in Inbox. This is the true GTD way.
Any suggestions for more benefits?
BTW, we’ve tightened up the whitespace as per David’s and Mickey’s suggestion. Just click on the Nozbe logo to refresh the page.
AT LAST!!!! Thanks for that, makes a huge difference to my GTD experience. Someday would also be good as an option. I was almost ready to switch to http://getitdoneapp.com/, as that is more true to GTD – but you have swayed me back – along with your new iPhone app :):):)
I also looked at Get It Done app, but the way that projects are handled is rather odd.
I’m really liking now with the Inbox working the way it is – a simple thing, but it makes a huge difference.
Michael’s post hunted that more GTD features are in the works as well. Good stuff!!
I looked at getitdoneapp.com as well and the way they handle ticklers and dated items seems counterintuitive to me. Thanks for the updates and continuous improvements. I think the Inbox will work for me!
I’m lovin’ the new Inbox. I used to have a project that was functioning like an Inbox, but I like the position of the Inbox at the top. Just makes visual (and mental) sense to me. Thanks!
Odd. I’ve always had a project called “inbox”, that I kept at the top of the list so that by default all my new actions go there, and so that it was visiable. But like Michael says, people seem to be loving this new non-feature!
What happens to completed actions from the inbox? If you check them off and thy aren’t part of a project where do they go?
Nicely done! It looks really sharp.
My one suggestion would be to tighten up the white space a bit. As a result of this, all of my projects have been pushed a bit further down the screen…
