We’ll be celebrating 3 years of business on February 1st 2010 and because of that we’ve prepared some extra stuff for you to help you get even more done this year:
Offline Backups of your Nozbe account
You’ve been asking for this one for quite a while now and we finally delivered… but we made sure we’d give you a lot more than just backups!
While some apps let you backup to XML, CSV and some other strange formats, in Nozbe you backup to a plain, nice text file that you can actually read on any computer and get stuff done when not connected to the Internet.
That’s correct, in Nozbe you can download the backup, open in a standard text editor like Notepad, add actions, mark some as done, add projects, etc… and upload your backup back to Nozbe and see the changes!
Watch this video to see Nozbe Offline Backups in action:
Isn’t that cool?
Enhanced SSL Security to all paying customers
We’ve been listening and we decided that our dedication to Internet security is more important than anything else so from now on even Solo users get full Enhanced SSL Security by default during their entire Nozbe session.
We make sure your data is safely stored on our servers, we use triple-backup technology, firewalls and fingerprint restrictions to make sure nothing happens to your data on our backend and now we use Enhanced SSL Security on our frontend.
All of our paying Nozbe users now can enjoy the same level of security they are accustomed to when visiting online banking system. Your actions and projects are as important (if not more)as your savings.
More contexts and projects on all plans
We’ve raised Contexts and Projects allowances on most of the account plans – all existing users have been upgraded automatically and can enjoy these today. Solo users get up to 50 contexts, Plus users 200 contexts, Family users get 2000 projects, etc.
Let me thank you so much for your continued business and for being a very productive Nozbe user!
Thanks to you we’ve been enjoying a steady growth throughout these 3 years and 2009, the “recession year” for most businesses was our best year yet. We’re sure to have an even better 2010 and we’re expecting to roll out some great enhancements to your favorite productivity tool.

Ellen, sorry for that, it’s good now – should be able to see the video. Let me know what you think.
looks very promising.
I already have a couple of perl script to create a doc file with all my projects and tasks to see them all in one file.. but the possibility to act directly on the file is very interesting.
thanks, Edu
I like the backup feature – very nice and much appreciated.
For me it would be even better if Nozbe could send me the text file in an email once a week (or whatever timing I choose).
I have all my WordPress backups sent this way and set a filter in Gmail to automatically forward to Evernote. Would be really nice to be able to do the same with my Nozbe backups as well.
Thanks Michael & Team!!
David
Greate! But… My plan is “Basic”, but I have not SSL. And I have only 30 projects. I need 50 too. :) May you fix this problems? :)
antonastin – just upgrade to Solo – it’s just $2 more than the old Basic and instead of 30 you have 100 projects – it’s a lot better. We’ll roll out SSL for all the old plans as well next week, so don’t worry, you’ll have SSL even if you don’t upgrade.
Thanks for the back up. I’m really enjoying this new feature. I like that I can work offline if I need to. Keep up the great work and keep the new features coming. I definitely feel it well worth the money I spend. Thanks again Michael and Nozbe team.
Hey Michael, was wondering if you could do a text version to explain how to work with Nozbe offine. I’d like to have a copy on my computer so when I’m offline and don’t have the video to refer to I would have an idea of what scripts I need to use. Thanks.
Ellen, thanks for great tip, we’ll add short info how to work with the file at the bottom of it so you’ll know. I’ll try to post a special tutorial as well here on this blog so you’ll be able to print it as PDF and store with you as “usage manual”.
Like it – simple and practical. Very comforting to have a copy of my work. Echo Ellen’s point. However when I reloaded I had LOTS of random exclamation-mark-contexts added, which will take some time to remove! Hope this can be investigated and sorted out.
More info: I have contexts named with an “@” for places eg “@ home” – this seems to mess it up. Easy to remove, obviously, but might cause problems for others
Thanks for reporting this Michael, we’ll have a look at it and see how this could be worked around.
Michael: “We’ll roll out SSL for all the old plans as well next week, so don’t worry, you’ll have SSL even if you don’t upgrade.”
The week is out. But no SSL. :) I’m waiting for it. :)
Offline capability is great (though I find the scripting a little confusing). I’ll definitely use the pdf version of the directions when that’s available!
We’ll be cleaning up the scripting very soon. The SSL for all the “old” Basic accounts will be enabled later this week, thanks everyone for your patience!
Wow! I have SSL on my old Basic account!!! Greate! Thanks, Michael!
You’re welcome, as promised, all paying customers are now on SSL – especially the ones that have been paying for so long.
Antonastin, thanks a million for being a great and long-time customer and user! Sorry to have kept you waiting!
Very nice, great sense of security. Summary of keys to use would be helpful.
Would still like a basic CSV format export file. Anyway i can get that?
Great tool. I’ve just discovered Nozbe and it’s a dream. I’m using it to organize what i need to do for my master thesis.
The only thing between me and a family account is talking about Nozbe with my family. I need to show them it is in spanish too. The problem is that the gtd book itself is hard to find in spanish (I live in Perú). Even so, I would buy a personal account, but why not bring my family with me, right?
By the way, this is a nice aproach to backups, specially for people not so computer savvy.
Do I presume that this is the workaround for not having a desktop version? I am a new user, just discovered it today, and I am testing it because it looks fantastic.. But when offline do I need to use the iPad and not the Mac?
Many thanks
Please can you point me at a description of how to use the backup file, there doesn’t appear to be anything at the bottom as promised.
There’s also some sort of problem with the parsing of the backup file if it’s put back into the web site. I had 90 actions in the Inbox when I saved a backup file then reading the same file back in without changes I had 100. After a lot of experimentation it appears that actions in projects other than Inbox are appearing in the Inbox. In addition text from within actions is having it’s format screwed up and appearing in random places.
Is this feature current and is it supposed to work? Also a document when told how to use the file would be helpful.
I agree with Andy. I’ve been using Nozbe for a year or so, and am now in a situation where using offline more regularly would be really helpful, but I can’t get consistent success with my offline edits.
Can you please provide a reference / help document for proper syntax / edits of the offline files?
Thanks in advance!!!
I’ve tried the backup feature and while it lets me export a file there is no link in setting to import it again. Is this limited to certain types of accounts?
Where did the import feature go? I made a bunch of changes to my backed up file but . . . ?
Would love to view the video but it says it’s private. Looks really cool can’t wait.
