Help us test Nozbe Android native application

Michael   Thursday, March 31

It’s been a long time in the making but finally Nozbe native app has hit the Android market!

Click to see the app in the Market and get it

Here’s my video showcasing the new app:

Main highlights of our Android app:

  • it’s free and it works with your Nozbe account. You can sign up from within the app
  • it sync seamlessly with your account. You can also click on the Nozbe logo in home screen to sync manually
  • it works with Evernote if you have Evernote hooked up to your Nozbe.com account
  • it’s a native app, built with native Android UI
  • it’s really, really fast :-)

This initial version supports the basic Nozbe functionality like: Next Actions, Projects, Labels, Contexts, Calendar, Actions, Notes and Evernotes.

Why this app is still in public beta

Android app is a lot harder to make than an iPhone app. There are so many different Android phones out there! We have tested our app on three different phones with three different screen resolutions and two different Android OS versions:

  • Motorola Droid (480×854), OS 2.1
  • Nexus One (480×800), OS 2.2
  • Samsung Galaxy Lite (320×480), OS 2.1

That’s why we need your help. We decided to go with public beta testing rather than private beta because we’d love you to give take it for a spin as quickly as possible and let us know what you think.

How to report bugs or problems?

Glad you ask, you can do it in two ways:

1) From within the app – go to “Settings” on the home screen and write your bug report there

2) On this web site

Make sure to write your Phone name, screen resolution and Android OS version, please.

Thanks for your help, this month we’ll be focused on making your Android experience even better by ironing out the UI, killing the remaining bugs and adding comments and project sharing support. We’ll make sure it’ll be the best productivity app on your Android phone.

Again, thank you so much for your support and your patience. Our two talented developers (Paul Krefta and Tomasz Kapelak) were working on the app around the clock for the last few months and I can’t just thank them enough.

The Android app is the next step after our iPhone and iPad apps to building a fully-synced Nozbe productivity suite for you.

Thanks so much for your support!

Again, here’s the link to the Nozbe native app in the Android market.

Yves Meysmans 31 Mar 11 07:55

I can’t access it in the market, don’t know why. Can you post the apk? Thx!

:-)
Stephane DEPOILLY 31 Mar 11 08:17

I just downloaded it from the market (from France).

Michael,

I have 2 questions:
1. This build features any crash log generated in case we run into one?
2. Do you count in testers using Cyanogenmod rom?

:-)
Stephane DEPOILLY 31 Mar 11 08:24

And for sure, thanks for your work and feedback!! :D

:-)
Paul Krefta 31 Mar 11 10:07

@Yves
App should be available under link provided in post :-)

@Stephane
1. App has some internal crash logging we don’t have access for that
2. Custom ROMs are not a problem – this is part of the Android community :-)

Yves Meysmans 31 Mar 11 12:17

it says my phone is incompatible. Is it my 320*240 screen?

:-)
Daniele 31 Mar 11 18:03

Looking forward to using it!

Just installed it on my HTC HERO / 2.1 and until now it works fine :)

Does this have copy-protection? I don’t seem to be able to load any copy-protected apps from the app-store on my Samsung Galaxy Europa (Android 2.1).

I’m loving this app. Widgets please, though! I want my next items on my main screen. Widget suggestions: 2×2, 3×2 and 4×2 listing all next items, and when you tap the widget you launch the app and are taken to your next items screen. Adjustable transparency, font size and font color. Also: please interface with Tasker; this will allow our phones to perform tasks for us based on Nozbe events. (Link: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/)

Paul Krefta 4 Apr 11 19:52

@Yves – we currently don’t have plans to support resolutions lower than 480 / 320. More info with next update.

@Owen – No. It doesn’t – it’s free :-)

Hi Nozbe Team,
First of all, congratulations for a fantastic app. It brought me completely out of making lists on a small diary I carry. One major thing any android user will be looking for is a widget, especially to add an action. Right now it is a 2 step process, first start nozbe and then press the add button. The collection process in GTD needs to be very easy so that we don’t procrastinate and the system take care of the rest. A widget will definitely solve this. I personally highly recommend it.

Again, a great app and web application in any case.

Hi Team
Where exactly are we to go to log a bug, I see no links within Nozbe. I am running on a Samsung Galaxy S and have had a few things happen with the App

:-)
Nate Jones 11 Apr 11 06:16

Running it on an HTC Evo 4G and so far no problems.
Thank you for a great application!

Please add a “refresh” button, to allow manual synchronization.

:-)
Marcel 22 Apr 11 15:43

I don’t no how to Sync with evernote?

:-)
Adrian Taylor 1 May 11 21:42

I find I can’t mark the first item in a list as complete. I’m afraid I think this app is the poor relation compared with iPhone/iPad apps, which is a shame. I’m sure it’ll be rectified soon though.

I really want a widget, ideally customizable sizes.

I have tried to use the ap many times, but it is so slow on my Droid 2 and doesn’t respond consistently to taps on the screen. I end up not being able to devote the time to test it. Will watch for updates.
