I wasn’t sure if I should post this officially, but I know you – Our Nozbe Beta Testers – will appreciate our open communication and frankness, so here’s our story:
Nozbe was down for most of this weekend.
I can’t express how sorry I am for this weekend’s downtime – it’s been a bad weekend for me because of that and I understand I’ve lost many users because of the situation…
... but please let me explain it all.
1. The idea of "beta"
We are not like Gmail beta, where "beta" is just the second part of the name of the application. We treat "beta time" seriously.
My idea of beta software is to test the software and prepare it for launch. You can go with "private beta" and just invite a bunch of users on board or invite everybody to test your software – "public beta".
Nozbe is in Public Beta.
This is the path we chose. During beta time we’re not only adding and testing new features, but also testing and tweaking system and server set up for the optimum speed and performance.
Because of one of such tweaks Nozbe went down for this weekend.
2. It’s not only about quick fixes.
Because of the complexity of the problem, we didn’t want to just put the system online, risking that the same problem emerged again and again… we had to investigate the issue and find the solution + put the measures that would not permit something like that happening again.
3. I’ve been too swamped with fixing the issue and forgot to get back to you
I’m really sorry for this. I admit it was wrong not to get back to you earlier, but I was just to busy fixing the issue…
4. This could happen to anyone
This happens to anyone, and it happened to us too. The most important thing is we took measures not to have anything like this again!
5. I’m sorry but again – we are doing all this hard work for you.
We’ve been testing this server-setups for you and this is what we do in "Beta" and we believe we are doing a good job in giving you the best user experience in Nozbe when the "official" Nozbe launches.
Final: We are sorry and hope we’ll get a second chance.
I understand we’ll lose some of you because of what happened but before you go please let me tell you that everyone deserves a second chance.
Moreover – we are preparing to launch the "official" Nozbe – so we need to be prepared for situations like this. And we definitely are now.
