When we’ve launched version 1.0 of Desktop we knew it wasn’t perfect but we knew it was good enough to already boost your productivity. I’ve been using it until a few days ago when I started testing version 1.1. And it’s great!
Speed, Speed and many improvements and fixes!
This new version of the app is now almost 3 times faster on Windows and sightly faster (and thinner!) on a Mac. We’ve used a new engine for getting our app right and it has paid off!
Windows: Download the fast and mighty Nozbe for Windows
Apple Mac: Download the updated and slimmer Nozbe for Mac
Note to Windows users – the application is not signed yet, we’re getting a new certificate now to sign the app so Windows might warn you that the app is “dangerous” etc. Don’t worry, just run the installer and you’ll be fine. Nozbe will only do good to your computer as it will make you more productive. We’ll try to release a new version without these warnings soon, but we didn’t want to make you wait even more. Other than that, the app is so fast it’ll blow you away. Trust me :-)
Note to Mac users – the application is compatible with Mac 10.6 and 10.7 – not 10.5 (let us know if you need it!) and has both the Japanese and English version enabled and works beautifully in both languages. New languages (Spanish, Polish and German) are in the works and will be there with the next update.
Note to all users – in this release we focused on speed, performance, minor features and bug fixes. New release with new features is just around the corner and is coming soon.
...but we did add just one more thing…
By popular demand we added alphabetical sorting of projects and contexts. Yes, a feature that’s been requested so many times and is “fully compatible with David Allen’s Getting Things Done” is there. It’s a toggle, so you can switch it on and off. You can’t manually reorder projects when in the alphabetical order mode, but you can switch it on with one click. If you have many projects, you’ll love this feature. I know I do. Thanks guys for suggesting it!
Again, in case you haven’t, go ahead and get your fresh Nozbe app:
It’s been more than two weeks since we’ve launched Nozbe Desktop and we are preparing our updated version (we’ve been working like crazy to make it happen) with better proxy support, speedier interface (especially on Windows) and many many bug fixes that our users uncovered in the last two weeks. Stay tuned!
In the meantime we’ve received great feedback from our users and bloggers all around the web, here are some quotes and posts:
“The more I use Nozbe, the more I am impressed. It’s not perfect—and it’s not the least expensive—but it is better than anything else I have found on the market. The product is at once simple to use and yet full of numerous, advanced features. It is the only task management system I feel comfortable recommending.”
Michael Hyatt
“I’ve long held that Nozbe is the premier general purpose task management system, and much of the reason is that it has always been an easy to learn and use web-based application, available to both Windows and Mac users alike.”
John Kendrick
“...as I work with the desktop version of Nozbe, I am finding it in some ways easier. The best thing is that I have a choice. I can use the desktop when I need to or when I am not on my computer, I can log into the web, or even use my Android phone. This allows me to manage my day from anywhere at anytime. Nozbe is so much a part of my life, I would be lost without it.”
GTD Software.net
“Having tried just about every ToDo app there is, my preferred app of choice is Nozbe. I like the fact that I can use it anywhere on any device and have written extensive reviews as such. Nozbe, as a company, is also a great example of a group of developers who are using their business to do some good in the world. Their customer service flows out of a desire to serve the customer rather than simply acquire more users. Their new desktop version for both Windows and Mac is very promising.”
Michael St Pierre
“Insgesamt eine tolle Ergänzung der Funktionalität von Nozbe. Durch die Datenspeicherung auf den Servern von Nozbe kann man sich ja in jeder Situation aussuchen, welche Zugangsmöglichkeit man benutzt.”
Christian Pohle
“If the price is not a dealbreaker for you, there is much to like in the nozbe app. It has an attractive user interface, is easy to use, provides solid integration with evernote and dropbox and is compatible with david allen’s getting things done™ (GTD™) approach.”
Gilbert Van Hoeydonck
“I like a lot about the new desktop app. Working offline is a big help, and the ability to filter Next Actions by project or context is one of those things that drove me to write my own client! Not everything is there, but I can see where the missing items would fit. The new type # to enter context, project, date whatever is a wonderful addition…”
Michael Koehler
Thanks everyone for warm welcome for our desktop apps!
We’ve been working hard and we won’t stop there. New versions are coming with many improvements and welcome features… and all this very, very soon!
Just a few days ago we brought you the Nozbe Desktop for Mac and PC and today I’d like to show you more desktop-oriented action thanks to a third-party tool by Fieldston Software that syncs Nozbe tasks and notes with Microsoft Outlook!
gSyncit – the missing link between Nozbe and MS Outlook!
David Levinson, the guy behind the app made something I’ve been waiting for so long (and many users have been asking for it) – he broke the silos between Outlook and web apps by syncing with many great apps that we also sync with, i.e. Drobox and Evernote… and now Nozbe!
The app is only $19.99 which is a small price to pay for a convenience of working with your favorite GTD tool together in your Mail/Calendaring part of the Microsoft Office suite.
I highly encourage you take gSyncit for a spin and let us know in the comments how your new “productivity flow” works with both Outlook and Nozbe.
Thanks David for an amazing product: gSyncit v.3
Note: “App of the week” is a regular column will be trying to keep here on the Nozbe blog about cool third-party apps that work with Nozbe using our Sync-API
Today is a big day for Nozbe as we are finally launching our desktop application for Mac and Windows.
Download Nozbe for Mac OSX (10.6/10.7 Lion)
Thanks to Nozbe for Desktop, both Mac and Windows users will be able to install Nozbe on their computers and get things done a lot faster even when they are not connected to the Internet.
Video 3 – Sharing and file uploads
Today we’re posting the third video showing you how Nozbe Desktop works when working together with teams:
If you have missed it, we have also posted two other videos:
Video 2 – Quick Task Entry with Auto-complete
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What are the new features in the version 1.0 as opposed to the last beta?
- auto-sync – the sync is almost instantaneous and automatic, you don’t have to think about clicking on the Sync button again. You can, your desktop app will be in sync most of the time
- auto-complete – when you add a task, just write # and you’ll see an auto-complete box helping you choose project, context, time needed for it and much more. Write ## (two hashes) and you’ll be able to append a comment in-line when adding the task. It’s really sweet and speeds things up!
- editing/removing comments and better comment handling – now commenting on tasks just got a lot easier than ever.
- file upload – just open a project, drop a file to the Nozbe app and it will be automatically uploaded to the project you chose. So easy with drag and drop!
This is version 1.0, we’ve got many great improvements in the pipeline for the version 1.1 and beyond!
2. Why a native app? Is your web app not enough?
Our web-app is great, but there are couple of reasons why we wanted to go native:
a) It’s a totally redesigned user interface for Nozbe – it’s still your favorite Nozbe, but with improved interface, flows and ideas – after 5 years of running Nozbe we’ve got some cool ideas how to improve your productivity even more with a significantly improved interface.
We wanted to try this on our desktop app first because we still want you to feel “at home” with Nozbe web app – until you’ll hopefully fall in love with the new design and feel even more productive.
b) The native app is just faster, it works offline (without internet connection!), and thanks to the fact that you have your local app, you have a copy of your most important stuff on your computer. It’s just a better Nozbe experience.
3. How much will the app cost?
It will be free forever. We won’t charge our users for it at all – where we make money is the Nozbe subscription that syncs your data between your web app, iPhone, iPad and Android apps…
Try Nozbe Desktop app today!
Download Nozbe for Mac OSX (10.6/10.7 Lion)
Mac OSX 10.5 version
One last thing – due to lengthy and complicated process of submitting the app to the Mac App Store – and lack of clear guidelines from Apple why our app doesn’t go through their approval process, Nozbe Desktop is not yet available on the Mac App Store. We’re working on this, but it may take some time to get there.
In this video I’d like to show you a neat trick that helps you add tasks to Nozbe really really quickly.
When you type a hash – you’ll see a list of auto-complete options. You can choose a due date, if it’s a next action, project… context… time needed to complete the task… or if this task should repeat every certain amount of time. This way you can add a task this quick, just look!

Thanks for watching this first intro video to Nozbe for Mac and Windows, we’ve been working hard on this one and we’re hoping you’ll love it as much as we did preparing it for you.
Apart from the amazing Nozbe updates, we’ve got a lot of new third-party apps coming with Nozbe integration or simply working with Nozbe beautifully. It’s time to highlight them on our blog.
First up: Nozbe To Do for iPad by Macoscope
As you might know, our iPad app is actually not our app – when we were considering building an iPad app we didn’t have the expertise to actually build one and we turned to our friends, authors of the iPublisher platform that powers our Productive! Magazine iPad app if they could do an iPad app. They could and they did but we wanted to be clear that they did and it was so good, that we let them be the official iPad app for Nozbe.
The app was $14.99 on the App Store – and with this purchase you have locally unlimited projects just like on our personal plan. If you choose to sync with Nozbe.com, you still have to sign up for the Nozbe plan but you can use the app independently just like other to-do apps on the iPad.
For a limited time it’s $9.99 on the App Store
If you’re an iPad user and you’re looking for a productivity tool on the iPad, make sure to check it out. Thanks Robert, Daniel, Zbigniew, Wojtek and other Macoscope guys for making it happen!
