Step 6 – Be Productive Everywhere – On the Move, Online, Offline

(This lesson a part of "10-step Simply Get Things Done" Course)

"Many people lose opportunities to be productive because they’re not equipped to take advantage of the odd moments and windows of time that open up as they move from one place to another, or when they’re in off-site environments. The combination of a good processing style, the right tools, and good interconnected systems at home and at work can make traveling a highly leveraged way to get certain kinds of work done."

David Allen, "Getting Things Done (GTD) and the Art of Stress-free Productivity"

When you’re on the move you can still get things done.

As David Allen says, productivity and getting things done is about learning the good habits and simply staying motivated… and having the right set of tools to help you get stuff done. You need these tools to be there with you to enable you to be productive anywhere, at all times.

Pen and paper – old-school tools that help clear your head.

Remember the Step 1 of this course? Don’t think about anything more than once – clear your head and write it down to process later. You can use anything to put stuff into writing – a simple pen and paper will do just fine when you’re not in front of the computer. A small piece of paper and an IKEA pencil can prove perfect productivity tools.

PDA? Just use your mobile phone instead.

I don’t like to carry too many devices in my pockets and I do need to carry my mobile phone with me almost all the time. Nowadays, most of the mobile phones have "notes" section to write stuff down. Mobile phone can be very useful for writing stuff down and later, when you’re by your computer – you can process your notes and put them as actions or notes in your productivity system, like Nozbe.

Mobile phones online – Nozbe.mobi

The newest mobile phones can surf the web easily and the rates are getting less and less expensive for this kind of mobile surfing. So if you’re a Nozbe user, you can access your account with Nozbe.mobi and write stuff directly to Nozbe or process your actions and read notes on your mobile phone screen. Thanks to Nozbe.mobi, you can have Nozbe in your pocket.

Nozbe in your pocket with PaperNozbe™

Alternatively, you can print out your actions or notes using Nozbe‘s different printing formats like Pocket or Wallet to use the printed lists as your offline version of Nozbe. This is Nozbe’s unique feature and it helps you keep your actions with you all the time. It’s especially useful if you’ve got errands to run or a shopping list with stuff to buy.

Nozbe on the iPhone – the match made in heaven

Apart from the great looks and built-in Safari browser, one of the great iPhone’s features is its flat Internet plan – you can be online using AT&T’s edge network all the time and can access a special version of NozbeiNozbe.com – with your iPhone at any time to process your actions or write stuff. Nozbe works beautifully on the iPhone’s Internet browser and feels like a native iPhone application helping you to get things done when on the move.

There’s no excuse for you to be productive when on the move

There’s just so many ways to be productive when either offline or when on the move. Being away from your computer doesn’t mean you’re away from your current getting things done system and if you’re a Nozbe user – you can benefit from Nozbe‘s variety of features designed for people on the move.

The bottom line:

Computer is not the only productivity tool you’ve got. With help of pen and paper, pda or mobile phone, you can be productive just anywhere. If you’re a Nozbe user, you can print out your actions and notes into a Wallet or Pocket format or simply access Nozbe.mobi or iNozbe on your mobile device.
