Nozbe 2.0 for Android is now available - get things done on the move!

Michael   Tuesday, January 10

I’m proud to announce that after months of testing we’ve shipped the 2.0 version of our Android application.

We have rewritten the application from scratch, it’s modern, has improved user interface and most of all, you can browse and add your actions easier with one tap on the screen – we optimized everything to make sure you can get things done on the move.

Download the application from the Android market

Here’s the video of the application in action as shown by yours truly:

We’d like to thank our beta-testers for trying out our app and all of our Nozbe community for great feedback.

The following observations have been reported to “questions@nozbe.com,” but I wanted to post them publically to see if others are seeing these things. These observations are from the updated version just installed from the Android Marketplace.

1) It takes far too long for the “check mark” to appear when a user completes a task. There is a large delay from the time a user “clicks” the check mark box to the time the check mark appears. The check mark should appear as soon as the user clicks the box.

2) There are some contexts where the graphic on the Android device do not match the graphics / icons on the web application. I have the “cars” icon for my Errands context and the “file folders” icon for my Home Office context. Both display with the correct graphics on the web, but display as flag icons on the Android device.

3) A task description that wraps to a second line can often overlap the metadata text slightly (context, project, etc.) that appears below the task. Observed on a Droid X2 phone. Screen shots have been provided to Nozbe support.

4) Similar to #3, the text in the Settings screen overlaps too. The “larger font” text overlaps the “smaller font” text on the second line of a Settings menu. Again, observed on a Droid X2 phone. Screen shots have been provided to Nozbe support.

Any Chance you could post the APK. I want to download it to my Kindle Fire. Thanks

@Ellen – Nozbe has a pre-release build posted here, but I’m not sure it is the latest that was posted to the market…

Hi

Thanks. Should we post buglet reports here?

1) about the checking off behavior, I never even see the green check appear … it just takes a few seconds and then the task “disappears”.

2) If I add a task to the inbox while offline (meaning the phone has no internet connection), and right after I try to add a comment to the tasks, i get some exception dialog box “[0,0] null, typeError cannot read property “length” from undefined”. I can add a new comment to tasks that are not in the inbox and were already defined before my internet connection went down.

3) if i add tasks when offline, and then an internet connection comes back, the program does not automatically sync when the connection comes back. it also does not sync if I just start the app and look around. it also does not appear to sync if i add a new task in the web version of nozbe. in order for it to sync, I actually have to chose “sync” from the menu. This is not what I would expect given that something called “seamless sync” is turned on.

Regarding the check mark…

1) I’m getting times of 3-5 seconds for this to appear when “completing” the task from a task list.

2) If I go into the details of the task (where you can set the context, due date, etc.) and click the check mark, it appears right away

Regarding Save button…

When adding a new task, the Save button should be disabled after the first click of the button until the task is added / committed. If you press it a few times by accident before the task displays on your screen, you end up with multiple / duplicate tasks.

On an Infuse by Samsung: when I return to open and use the app, I’m always logged out. I have to retype in the login credentials each time I load the app — is that the right behavior? Is there a way to make the app keep the login information so I don’t have to type it in every time?

I have another bug, which when coupled with a certain slowness of the app, is a show-stopper for me. On my HTC Desire (just Desire, no letters like HD or Z or whatever after), I have a database of 150 tasks in five projects. Sometimes when I press the Nozbe application icon, I see tasks immediately. I guess this is when the app is still in memory from the previous time I opened it. Sometimes when I press the icon, a big Nozbe startup screen shows, and I have to wait. Here comes the problem : the “normal” situation (which happens about half the time) is that I wait for ten seconds (yes TEN) and then tasks show up. The other half of the time, the app never comes back from the startup screen, I have to go to applications and force quit.

So this means any time I start the Nozbe app, I have to wait ten seconds before I know whether I will need to force a quit to get it to work. and of course, if I force quit, I have

- waited for about 12 seconds to see if it’s going to open normally
- spend about 8 seconds navigating to the Nozbe app in the Applications Settings menu and force quit
- start up Nozbe again and wait ten seconds for it to start normally

total time 30 seconds, which means average start time of the app of 20 seconds. Any time I want to do anything, I have to wait on average almost half a minute before I can actually use the app. I can’t understand it, I have used many other Android apps, none of them are so slow. The reaction time of Ultimate ToDo List, from application icon press until a functional screen appears, is less than 2 seconds, TEN TIMES FASTER.

Besides that, it is just really irritating to half to wait ten seconds (and count the seconds!) every time you start, before you know whether the dang thing is going to work. That’s the last thing you want from a GTD system : an irritating user experience.

On to the next round, hope your Android developer can find some buddies to help him/her discover what it is that’s making the system so slow!! Good luck!!

ps : sorry for the spelling errors. I can’t even blame autocorrect!

This one is fantastic! I’m using it in preference to the website on my PC. It’s really fast. The first android app you released was unusable, but this one is a vast improvement. Thank you.

As pearnet, I’m surprised, and rather disappointed, that though the pre-release version worked find on the HTC Wildfire (aka Buzz) with the small screen, it’s been put on Android marketplace as incompatible with our phones, and accordingly cannot be installed from the marketplace. What’s changed between pre-release and final release that has made it incompatible for the smaller screens? Thanks.

:-)
Tamara 25 Jan 12 12:41

@David Cornish, How are you using it on your PC?

:-)
sixian 26 Jan 12 08:38

The big + (plus) button in the bottom centre covers the last task desciption. It’s annoying.
Furthermore, the synchronization doen’t work.
