Today is a big day for Nozbe as we are finally launching our desktop application for Mac and Windows.
Download Nozbe for Mac OSX (10.6/10.7 Lion)
Thanks to Nozbe for Desktop, both Mac and Windows users will be able to install Nozbe on their computers and get things done a lot faster even when they are not connected to the Internet.
Video 3 – Sharing and file uploads
Today we’re posting the third video showing you how Nozbe Desktop works when working together with teams:
If you have missed it, we have also posted two other videos:
Video 2 – Quick Task Entry with Auto-complete
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What are the new features in the version 1.0 as opposed to the last beta?
- auto-sync – the sync is almost instantaneous and automatic, you don’t have to think about clicking on the Sync button again. You can, your desktop app will be in sync most of the time
- auto-complete – when you add a task, just write # and you’ll see an auto-complete box helping you choose project, context, time needed for it and much more. Write ## (two hashes) and you’ll be able to append a comment in-line when adding the task. It’s really sweet and speeds things up!
- editing/removing comments and better comment handling – now commenting on tasks just got a lot easier than ever.
- file upload – just open a project, drop a file to the Nozbe app and it will be automatically uploaded to the project you chose. So easy with drag and drop!
This is version 1.0, we’ve got many great improvements in the pipeline for the version 1.1 and beyond!
2. Why a native app? Is your web app not enough?
Our web-app is great, but there are couple of reasons why we wanted to go native:
a) It’s a totally redesigned user interface for Nozbe – it’s still your favorite Nozbe, but with improved interface, flows and ideas – after 5 years of running Nozbe we’ve got some cool ideas how to improve your productivity even more with a significantly improved interface.
We wanted to try this on our desktop app first because we still want you to feel “at home” with Nozbe web app – until you’ll hopefully fall in love with the new design and feel even more productive.
b) The native app is just faster, it works offline (without internet connection!), and thanks to the fact that you have your local app, you have a copy of your most important stuff on your computer. It’s just a better Nozbe experience.
3. How much will the app cost?
It will be free forever. We won’t charge our users for it at all – where we make money is the Nozbe subscription that syncs your data between your web app, iPhone, iPad and Android apps…

Mac OSX 10.5 version
One last thing – due to lengthy and complicated process of submitting the app to the Mac App Store – and lack of clear guidelines from Apple why our app doesn’t go through their approval process, Nozbe Desktop is not yet available on the Mac App Store. We’re working on this, but it may take some time to get there.

When will be the client available in the Mac App Store?
Michael, any progress on the labels disappearing issue? Desktop version would be very useful to me, but currently is worthless due to this glitch. Any news on progress towards this would be appreciated. Thank you!
How do I re-sync everything with correct date? Each Next Action will not sync its date with any other device. But, when I “completed one” it synced across. I use the calendar view. Any suggestions? I uninstalled and reinstalled the mobile apps, and re-booted my Windows PC.
Windows desktop app: really slow and unusable for me. I tried :-(
Another person have problems with the project labels no sticking in the Windows app. Viewable on the web app even is set in Windows app. But not retained in Windows app.
I like a lot of things about the new Mac App, but why does it have a completely new set of icons (for Contexts)? If it has to have a new set of icons, why don’t they at least correspond to the icons online? For now, I’m just going back to using the online version, until the icons are fixed. Thanks much.
< Nozbe.com works fine, but this Windows app doesn’t let me log in.
The error is: “Problems when logging in – are you sure you are online? Cannot connect to Nozbe.com servers, please try again”>>
I’m having the same error.
After reading a review by Michael Hyatt I may give Nozbe another look. When do you expect to roll-out the upgraded web interface? If I jump back in I’d prefer to start with roughly the same interface between the web app and the desktop app. Thanks! Todd
Japanese input can’t work !!
How can I delete a label made in desktop app? It also is not showing in web app.
Same as a couple of previous comments about being behind corporate proxy servers.
I am also having trouble with the labels. They disappear until I log out and log back in. Nevertheless, I am enjoying the improvements in the product. Thank you for your hard work.
I’m having the same problem as Juha Leivo in the Windows app (see comment from 3/31/12). When I change anything in the projects: delete, rename, re-label all projects are gone in all labels, and I have to log out and log back in to get the projects back. Then it happens again if I do anything to a project. Really appreciate the desktop app, but with this issue, I can’t use it at all.
How do you turn an Action into a Project?
Anyone else having trouble with drag and drop?
Another person stuck behind a proxy and unable to use desktop app. Nozbe.com still works, thankfully. Is there a settings panel for the desktop app to set the proxy? Thanks!
I like the look and feel of the Windows version. Just one observation not mentioned above. The icons for Contexts to not match or are not available when comparing Desktop app to Web app. Please consider this little fix in the next version :)
Am I right in seeing that there is NOT ONE SINGLE keyboard shortcut in the windows app? That a mouse is absolutely essential for every single action?
I used the new software for 10 minutes and after that the labels no longer worked. Desktop app (Windows) doesn’t show any projects in any label any more. Luckily the data on the server side is correct since the web version still shows everything OK.
Windows client have bugs related to project labels. If I assign new label to project it get reset to NULL after some time. “No Label” button on Labels UI also not functioning properly.
One issue not yet mentioned: Project labels didn’t sync to the app. However, new labels added in the app are synced to Nozbe.com. Thanks for the great work!
I’m having problems on the Windows version – I’m not able to set a time for appts. I set the time but it doesn’t “stick.”
small bug: invitations do not work in the win app. there is information about new invitation, but nothing shows after I click on it
I’m glad to see the native apps, but is Nozbe moving away from the web app? That’s one of the selling points for me — I can access it on any machine without installing anything…
Well, and now using the windwows version, the label filter works…but it deleted a label completely. Are these issues known?
Great news! Any chance of running this from a USB key?
Great Apps – installed it on my Mac.
Can we have a Windows version which is portable / without msi-Installer please?
I agree with Klaus. The support for “this week” and “next week” are vital to me and its a pity you can’t set them in the desktop app. I also second that the UI is overall a bit too “clicky”
I love it that you’ve built drag-and-drop task management into the application. also, I’m not having any trouble learning to use the calendar view (even though the old calendar picker is missing). Thanks again for your work!!!!
Doug
Seems to be syncing great, Michael. I like it. I’m going to try to plunge totally in to the Windows app.
Congrats Michael on the new apps. John
This week and Next week are gone from the calendar (tasks labeled with those weeks even do not show up anymore in calendar view – that’s a major design flaw). How will I organize things to be done next week? I will stay with the web application! Not as nicely designed, but easier to handle as the brand new desktop app, less clicking around when sorting tasks from the inbox to projects, giving them a context and time (simply drag and drop in the web app versus multiple clicking and scrolling through drop down menus).
Is there a way to see tasks history (tasks that were already finished more than one day ago)? Thank you very much.
Japanese input, which worked with the previous version, doesn’t work with this version. (OS X Lion)
I’m sitting behind a corporate proxy server.
Nozbe.com works fine, but this Windows app doesn’t let me log in.
The error is: “Problems when logging in – are you sure you are online? Cannot connect to Nozbe.com servers, please try again”
Please update the app to allow it to leverage the current proxy server in use by Windows.
Just wanted to make you aware if you aren’t already… Windows 8 is trying to block the install… I think’s because it sees it as published from an unknown source… just figured I’d pass it along.
